Coyotes when to hunt them?

Yes it is a good time. They will be on the prowel for food because it is so cold and early spring they will be loading up for the pups they'll soon have. I would think the BEST time would actually be late summer through fall. Alot of weened young(less educated) pups running around. I don't hunt them then cause I'm hunting deer. As far as technique...I would get yourself a DVD or hit up you tube. Yote hunting is not easy. It takes as much preparation as deer hunting IMO. Not to mention yotes are the smartest animals in the woods. So if you're gonna hunt them..be comitted to it. I genrally keep my eye out for tracks during deer season and hit those spots when the wind is right after deer season closes. If you go in blind..just hunt the wind and stay out of sight especially on your approach. Remember, if your calling, the coyotes will circle down wind before they come in. So it's better to hunt with a cross wind or quartering wind IMO. Good luck.

Right now is a good time, they tend to rome more to find food, so Ive read. Also its easier to see with the leaves gone, but they can c you better to. Watch the wind and get you a mojo critter, and good luck.
I know it's a bit more work, but do any of you coyote regulars hunt from treestands? I have several treestands that are up all year, and many of them we've seen coytes from while deer hunting.

Ive called in and killed three from a box stand 16 ft off the ground this deer season. Id rather be on the ground, but in this area it helps to see alot more land.

Sounds good for a deer set, but my problem with it for yotes would be the wind direction. Yotes usually circle to the down wind side of the caller or prey. I don't know how that would work with the river being down wind of you. I like to have a cross wind or a quartering wind coming over my left shoulder(because I'm a right handed shooter). JMO

As far as the best to hunt them depends on sevral things, I fave time is after deer season closses and the woods calm down.
During the later part of winter ther pair'n up to mate so ther serious terratorial over intruders (other coyotes and even dogs) entering ther turf, you can learn (how to dvds) the vocal type of howls you can play it against them pretend'n to be a strange dog in ther turf look'n for love or to challenge the male for domanance and terratory.(basicaly pick'n a fight doggie style)

i've called up more with a turkey call than any other way
i've found they they usually travel along water so if you have any creeks or drainage ditches and especially close to beaver dams for some reason
deep in the woods along a creek has been really productive for me
also a coyote hates fox and will go out of their way to kill one
so if you have any red fox scent it works well too
