Coyote question

Have a preacher friend who's has 2 to 3 coyotes coming in his yard the last few weeks just at night. Seems they've timed his routine just right when he lets his dog out to use the bathroom and they run to the yard and the dog tries to stand its ground each time.

Could he legally shoot the coyotes if they're in his yard and he feels his dog is threatened?

There are conflicting regulations on that, so it is something he would need to discuss with his local officer.
