I have a question for all you guys who kill coyotes. I have never hunted them and have heard they are tough to kill. I have a Remington 870 super magnum shotgun. It will hold up to 3 and a half inch shells. What would be the best shotgun shell to use to easily kill coyotes with this gun? Thanks
 
I hunt with an 870 super mag as well. I shoot 3" Remington #4 buckshot through a .680 choke and have dropped them dead at 40 yards. My effective range is about 50 - 55 yards with this setup. Have to be careful shooting large shot sizes through extra tight chokes (.670 or less) because it can distort the pattern or worse, damage the choke or barrel.

OK. Thanks. I have the factory modified and full chokes that came with the gun. I assume they would be safe to use with the #4 buckshot? Thanks again for the reply.
 
Yes the factory chokes will be fine for #4 buck. I would go with the full for tighter patterns and more effective range. You'll have to pattern the gun, choke, load combo to determine you're effective range. The Remington 3" #4 buckshot load is a 41 pellet load. A general rule of thumb I use is at least 10 pellets in a 10" circle.
 
You are correct. Went back and double checked and the hunting guide says T shot or smaller. Hevi-Shot makes a T shot load in 3 or 3.5" and both Federal and Hornady make BB coyote loads. Sorry for the confusion.
