is a .17hmr good choice out to 125 yards for yotes,i dont want their hides i just want their hides dead.

.17hmr is a bit week for that distance imo. Try a .223 or .243. You can get a .223 for less than you think (ie Savage Edge). The ammo is pretty inexpensive too.
17 hmr will work and i use it for yotes but it ain't really a great yote round.
.223 seems to be the best choice cause ammo is cheap and plentiful.
you could step over to a 22-250 which begins to look better than the .223 if your out around 250-300yds.
243 is a great all around pick, it can be loaded up for deer too.
but if i'm going for a yote only gun .223 gets my vote. the .223 is also alot of fun long range plinking. playing with wind and drop at 600+ yds is fun with a .223

i already have the 17 just wanted to know if they would die with it,i dont care if i lay a hand on them i just want them to run out of the fields and die,destructive little!!!!! they are killing anything they can get ahold of

I hear you. We had a rough few years with coyotes, but right now we are covered up with packs of wild dogs. I love my little 223 Howa.

i would say at that range, that little bullet won't have much oomph. shorter ranges. say 75 or so, should be ok.

Shoot the right bullet and make good shots and they will die..I shot the Hornady 20gr xtp bullet.THey are made for penetration and controlled expansion.I shot a yote at 75yds with my .17 and he ran maybe 25 yds in the field and died..It was a neck shot.

Do you have a deer rifle? If you do it will work fine if your not worried about the hides. The 17hmr is impressive (i have one) but a little week for yoties at that range.
yes i have a 7mm08, the little 17 worked to good yesterday had to pick two off them up and toss em in woods,17hmr ballistic tips at 90-100 yards to dead yotes.only 50 more to go

The 17hmr is a bit anemic for coyotes... it's a shame that it's illegal to use a centerfire during bow season. (of course only on coyotes) For an "ethical kill" on coyotes I wouldn't use the 17hmr. Go with your deer rifle or .223 (my favorite rifle) I only hunt coyotes now, unless prodded by a buddy. My .223 Rem. is just sweet to shoot and deadly on the coyotes.

I've used everything from a .22 to .270 to 7mm.
As any good shooter will tell you, just know what your gun will do. There are tons of ballistic charts, calculators, etc that show bullet drop, fps lb, etc.

I like the 22-250 over the other 22 centerfires hands down.

killed one this year with my crossbow at about 7 yds from my blind. plan to go after deer season is over and thin out more .....
