Thinking about getting one. Found a good deal. For the guys that have one, what are the pros and cons? How much is it costing you for the pic transferring?

I'm a covert guy so you don't have to sell me on the brand. :) Thanks.
 
That's what all my buddies use and I will upgrade to it if I don't get the code black. They are selling around $160-180.

How much is it costing you per month for the ability to email pics? Did you add a line or buy a sim card?

The price I've been given from a dealer is $220. It's the cheapest I can find.
 
Friends,Wing supply has the black 60 for $119 again.Just got the email over the weekend.

Anybody got an extra $119 they could loan me? :grin:

It's the mp6 black not the black 60. The mp6 is the cheapest black flash covert has.
 
Not a fan of the black 60's. Night moving pics are blurry, I was told that's just the way all black cams are. I sold mine and went back with red glow. Just my opinion.

You're going to miss a lot of pictures doing that! ;)

But you are correct. "Motion blurred" night pictures are a major downside of using black-flash cams. I just set my cameras up to take the maximum burst mode pictures I can for each trigger. Out of all those pics taken per trigger, hopefully one or two are good enough.
 
Personally, I would never pay for a data plan per camera just to have pictures emailed to me. But to each their own.

I went to the AT&T store and got a prepaid SIM card. There was no charge for it. It's $5 per month for 200 pics. $10 per month for 1000 pictures. $20 per month for unlimited pics. You can pay during the season and not pay during the off season.

How cool is the Code Black? Well, this buck just walked past my one of my stands in Kansas about 15 minutes ago. He has been coming by pretty regularly this week. I have another Code Black at a stand site an hour away that is texting me nothing but small buck pics. I won't waste any time hunting it right now or even driving to it to check the camera. I am loving the text feature and believe that the $10 per month is some of the best money I'm spending this season. When January gets here I will go down to the $5 per month plan or just deactivate the service until I'm ready to fire it up again.

If I lived on or near my hunting areas it wouldn't be as valuable of a tool to me. But living several hrs away makes it totally worth it to me. Plus, sitting at home or work and getting pictures of deer walking past your stands is just plain fun.

Yup, having cameras on an out-of-state or cross-state property is where paying for emailed pictures would be worth every penny.

These are night pictures that were e-mailed to me from my Covert Code Black, which is the cellular version of the Black 60. Keep in mind these are 8MP pictures that are compressed down to about 75kb prior to being transmitted via MMS. The actual 8MP pictures that are written to the SDHC card are much better quality. I do get a few blurry night photos if an animal is moving fast, but most of the ones I get are not bad.

I faced a similar problem. Very poor signal from AT&T in one area where I wanted to put a camera. First I purchased an omnidirectional, dual-band, external booster antenna from Covert for about $30. It helped a little, but not enough for consistently reliable MMS transmission of pictures. A few pictures were able to be sent to me, but many pictures were not. Eventually the camera used up all the battery power trying to transmit pictures and it died.

To solve the problem I built a high-gain, unidirectional, 850MHz Yagi antenna with plans that I found online. Cost me about $30 to make it with materials that I ordered from Amazon.com and Home Depot. I determined where the nearest AT&T cell site is and mounted the Yagi antenna about 20 ft up the tree and aimed it in the direction of the AT&T cell site. It works great and now I'm consistently getting text pictures from that camera location.

The Chinese-made factory antenna from Covert is on the right and my homemade 850MHz Yagi antenna is on the left.

 
Vermin - do you mind sharing more specifics about your yagi setup? I need to make one, but I'm electronically clueless.
