Ok, I have a buddy who is wanting a .308 in a ar platform or something similar. His price range with out optics is 700-900. I haven't really seen anything in that range other than a century c308 and a ptr 91gI. They both are hk91 clones and have mixed reviews. Anyone have any experience with these? He's wanting it for hunting and target shooting. Would he be better off looking for a good quality bolt gun? I'm just trying to help him out a little.

I have an older PTR91. Have taken deer @/300 yrds with it. Love to shoot it. Shoots a little better than minute of man with surplus ball ammo. Never really put hand loads or match ammo through it. Actually will be shooting it Sat morning. PTR bought H&K machines from ?Portugal? They are about as close as you can get with out the HK stamp on the receiver. Many of the parts are HK. They do a number on brass on ejection. Par for the HK course. I have a wide forearm with bipod and claw mount and scope. I'll see what some Black hills match does in the morning. I do recommend buying one. It is a semi 308 and shouldn't be expected to shoot a ragged hole and be a sniper. Plus, with all the AR10s out there, its nice to be a little unique. 20rnd mags can be found NIW for $5. HK parts are expensive but, deals are out thereto be had.

BTW, I have heard nothing good about Century. No personal experience but know a few buddies who sold their garbage to people they didn't know cause they were sick of messing with new guns trying to get them functional.

Like I said, minute of man. This is @ 100yrds. Sierra Match bullets, was told is black hills loads. Guess I might have tried taking a little more time, trigger isn't match grade like a bolt may/could have, mirage,, blah blah blah (insert more excuses here). The darn thing eats anything you put in it. Can't ask for anything more from a "battle rifle".

Thanks trauma! I appreciate you taking the pics. The more I read about one I may put off a new bolt gun myself and pick me one up. I'll relay what you've mentioned to him. I would love to find a dealer close to chattanooga. I'm going to swing by gt distributors one day this week and see if they might have one.

i have a DPMS i'll sell for $900. minus scope and bipod:
