Normally I would have already logged quite a few hours in scouting, stand hanging, and hunting. Being retired and being an avid hunter I spend almost all October in the woods and all of November and December running cameras and hunting while constantly scouting. I'm used to watching the season's change from 20' above ground. Having broken my hip opening morning I'm now resigned to hobbling out on the back porch to watch the leaves gradually changing colors and an occasional deer cross the back yard. I can live with missing archery season but I live and breathe for those scrape lines starting to show up and the big boys starting to get active and the anticipation of what's to come from my stand sites. It kills my soul to miss this although I might can and am shooting for somehow getting involved during gun season. This is just a reminder to appreciate what hunting is doing for you AND to appreciate being able to do it. A morning walk to the stand and a hunt without making a kill or even seeing a deer is much, much better than no walk at all. Don't take it for granted and have fun.

Good reminder and I hope you make a very quick recovery, I bet you'll be pulling the trigger on one before the end of season.

I was on my wheeler on the way to the woods opening morning and got slam dunked off of it. I was wearing my safety harness and left the rope dangling instead of strapping it across my chest and my back tire ran over the end of the rope. You could run around with a rope around your chest and the end dangling on the ground all day long until someone stepped on the end of it and then you'd stop fast. I did.

I can relate Mike as I broke my leg turkey hunting that ended my season and still giving me some trouble now. Stay positive!

Mike thanks for the reminding.its so true we as hunters get caught up in the debates of 2 vs 3 deer, rack size and who's who in the hunting world. As you so kindly have reminded each of us . It's about way more than that as it should be. In a country that's falling apart at the seams it's sure is nice to get out in the deer woods. I pray Jesus gives you a speedy recover so you can get back out there asap.
