Corn feeder fail

Here in WV it is legal to bait deer, with a little hesitation I ordered a moultrie hanging feeder a placed it in one of my best spots. I was getting over 2k pictures every two weeks with several nice bucks on just a mineral lick and the handful of corn I would spread when ever I checked my camera. After two weeks of running the feeder that barely spread .5lbs of corn twice a day I only had 350 pics with maybe 30 pics of a very timed doe and the rest were all bears which are not legal to bait. I loved the idea at first, but as I finished hanging the feeder I immediately felt dirty,cheap, and lazy. After seeing the results I took it down and my pride returned. We all know that a little bit of those yellow acorns will go along way when it comes to seeing more deer activity, but I took it to a whole new level and payed the price. I did get tickled when i went to check it and there were so many piles of bear crap it looked like a cow pasture.

I have no problem with people doing whatever is legal in their area.Truthfully,I hope corn is never made legal here,just because it has gotten so expensive,dont wanna feel like I have to bait,just to keep up with the neighbors.Also,the disease spread issue scares me a little,AND I DONT WANT TO ENCOURAGE HOGS TO MOVE IN!

My uncle in SC uses those feeders,and eventually they get to recognize the sound as a dinner bell,funny to see em run in.

After years of hunting over corn in SC where I grew up,which seemed as normal as sunrise,I get along fine w/o it now,dont really even think about it anymore.

I had an experience at a high fence ranch in Texas where they had the spreader on the front of the truck and peppered the road with corn, that lasted for two hunts and nobody could believe it when I told them that I was going to take my climber and find a spot in the big woods off the road. Guess I should learned my lesson then.

personally i see no difference to sitting on a food plot and deer eating bio logic and shooting them


oh throwing out corn is lazy but so is using a john deere tractor and disk when a man could just use a mule and blade

I agree. I just put about 40lbs of corn out at my place in Ky. I will probably put more out next weekend when we mow and hunt over it opening weekend of bow. There is no difference in that than hunting over a food plot or a corn or bean field.

Not being a stickler but by letter of the law in TN if you plant something for the purpose of hunting over it its baiting... But the 60 acres of corn that I grow every year for the cows to roam on after deer season is no different than a pile of corn.
