Was out on Old Hickory today and there are literally thousands of these birds ruining the islands on the lake. They kill all the trees with their feces, and the islands wash away.
There are clearly to many of them.
I remember a time when there weren't any at all. They seem like an invasive species to me, yet we can't kill them. With Asian carp, we are encouraged to kill them.
It is a matter of time before the islands are all gone and they begin to roost and nest on the banks of the river, which will cause horrible erosion, further damaging the ecosystem.
Does TWRA have a plan to do anything about these birds that are destroying the lake?
If not, why?
