I'm noticing a lot of pedical damage here in Ohio. Must be a sign of intense rut!

I got permission to shed hunt him! I didn't ask about actually hunting, but I'm still caught up on trying to kill a public land Boone and Crockett (which is going to be a challenge as little as I ever actually go hunting)

I've seen more damaged racks in the last two years than I've seen in the previous 20.

Cool character. Looks very similar to one my wife killed a few years back. The one she killed had been quite the fighter in the prior year, shredded his antlers early on, but continued bullying other deer.

Will the ones that have a normal rack on one side and a huge cactus spike on the other ever return to normal or is this something that persists each year?

Actually gets worse with time. Usually ends up being a big blade spike.

I remember you posting about this a long time ago. Oddities from body injuries recover-pedical damage not so much

The previous year, this guy had that classic "bundle of spikes" at each pedicle. The following year, just big blade spikes.
