Conquest vs Leupold

Sighting rifles at lease yesterday near dark and did a side by side comparison of the zeiss conquest 3 x 9 and Leupold vari x ii 3 x 9.

My opinion is the zeiss is way clearer but I hate to admit but the leupold was just a shade brighter as darkness approached.

Like I said just my opinion.

They both make good optics. I prefer Leupold, myself.

Zeiss Conquest all day long!!! I looked thru both a BassPro in Nashville. The Conquest was 10X brighter and clearer than the VX-3. From the optics area, I looked at the dimly light mural up top near the front cash registers. I was able to see way much more detail with the Conquest...although the VX-3 wasn't bad.

The Leupold Vari-X II was discontinued by Leupold in 2004 and replaced by the VX-II.

The Leupold VX-II was discontinued by Leupold in 2012 and replaced with the VX-2.

Was your comparison done with an old Vari-X II or a VX-II or a VX-2?

I used an old Vari-X II scope on a hunt one time and I thought it was awful compared to the newer scopes I have.

Yeah, the Vari x II isn't even close to In the same class.

Brighter isn't always better. Especially if you can't see Leupolds wire reticle in low light. The longer eye relief of the Conquest will give the illusion that it is not as bright. The Conquests etched reticle will be 10x easier to see in low light.

However, both scopes will work just fine 30 minutes past sundown.

I have both and have compared side by side multiple times at dusk . At 100yds out to 500yds at home and in Wyoming , no comparison to me that zeiss is by far a better scope all around . Especially in low light near dark , I have the conquest 4.5x14x50 and the hd5 5x25x50 . All my leupolds will be replaced with zeiss .

The vari x ii is about the same as the riflemam from walmart you diffenatly aint comparing apples to apple there

a vx3 would be the competitive scope for the conquest, not the lesser quality VX2

Older vari x ii. I like the Zeiss better just was surprised by the brightness of the leupold.

I personally like leupold better they just fit my eye better but I would buy a ziess all day long also. both very good scopes.

Never looked through the leupold but love my conquest.

I've owned a barrel of both. I prefer the Leupold coatings and picture.
