Confused by the wind

Just wondering if anybody has had the same experience I've had the past two weeks.
Wind forecast is all over the place. Several days in a row out of the North.
Some ESE, some WSW, a little of everything.

But in reality, every single hunt has been a northern wind ...
I'm hunting in a relatively flat area of a cedar forest in Wilson County.
Thoughts?
Explanation?
Similar experience?
I'm confused.

Sometimes the wind just don't go as predicted. However, a lot of times, the thermals especially when hunting hilly terrain will over power the wind direction and blow your scent another way. Also, sometimes the terrain itself will also dictate the direction that your scent travels no matter what the direction is.

I've had similar experience.....but have no explanation?....my thoughts are it's frustrating.... sorry, I know I'm not helping any.

Yes. My wind direction changed three times Saturday morning and shifted to the worst possible direction right when I had a descent six and a spike come right behind me. Of course I got busted. We've had quite a bit of wind still coming up from the gulf this fall at weird directions.

Anytime the wind is less than 5mph, I expect random shifts in any direction... thats the biggest problem with early morn and late eve when the wind dies down. I'd much rather hunt in 8 to 12mph winds, because you are less likely to get the random swirls

We've had quite a bit of wind still coming up from the gulf this fall at weird directions.

I think this is it. Some of these have been fairly large, and the winds are different depending on what side of the system you are on.

I hunt Wilson county and I have had to go close to the area I wanted to hunt and stand there for 10 or more minutes to verify the wind direction because it hasn't matched what the app said. If y'all have never used the cattails for wind you need to start! They are free and float in the air a long way to truly give you an idea of how your scent travels
