I was wondering, since TN is a "friend to friend" state.

Is it possible to get a concealed carry permit using a gun which was obtained legally, But not in your name?

Would any problems come about by carrying such weapons that weren't purchased from a licensed dealer?

Yes, I used a friends gun when I took the course.
No, as long as it is not stolen the gun doesn't have to be registered to you.

You need to run them through your local PD just to make sure they are not a stolen gun..You would be suprised at the number of people I have checked carrying a gun that was bought/borrowed from a friend or relative that was supposed to be clean, but came back from NCIC as reported stolen..Might save you a headache.

You have to register your gun to get a carry permit in Tennessee? I don't like that at all.

Guns are not registered in TN.

You can register them if you want, but it's not required unless you buy it new from a dealer, and from what I understand they keep the paperwork.

I didn't think so. Do you have to list the weapons you plan on carrying concealed? I have a FL CCW not Tennessee HCP but carry when I am in Tennessee. Just wondering if I decide to get permitted in Tennessee.

The gun that you qualified with will be listed on the application, but you can carry whatever you like. I qualified with my father in laws' 9mm and I was never asked to show verification of ownership on the day of the class.

This is a form of firearms registration and needs to STOP!!

Here it is guys I am a FFL there is no such thing as gun registration in the state of tn. When I run a background check the information is sent to the TBI kept in thier computers for 48 hours and then deleted. the only record of you buying that gun sits in my filing cabinet. Every once in a while the ATF comes by makes sure all the guns I say are gone are gone and the ones that are supposed to be here are here. That is all they care about. The only way to trace a firearm in tennessee is to check with the distrubuter who shipped the gun to the dealer who sold it to the first owner. that would be a nightmare.

Never quite understood the whole "qualify with one gun, carry whatever else you want" idea. Guess it's the LE firearms instructor coming out in me.

It did....D.O.S. required a gun's serial number on a class's sign-in sheet. People got PISSED and the issue was reversed.

You can carry ANY pistol you'd like in TN, so long as it is legal to own anyway.

Years back a carry permit was issued through the local sheriff and at that time it was issued for one weapon and that weapon only. You were also required to post a bond though a bonding company in the name of the local sheriff. It changed when it went to statewide issuance and you can carry any weapon you choose. I suspect some of the weapon listings are a carryover from the old system and paperwork.
