I had a glock 30 gen 5 on layaway from kygunco and they canceled my order, they had them for 429.99.... after doing some research i was pretty tickled about acquiring that pistol... ohhh well
 
They're heavy, be aware of that. If not considered beforehand, it will be afterwards. My favorite .45ACP carry gun is a 4" Kimber with rounded butt. I have a Gen 1 Glock 30 but haven't carried it in years.

I carry an M&P 45 10+1 with Golden Saber 185 grain +P ammo. 14-18 inch ballistic gel penetration with .80 expansion. Get 'Er Done.

I was going to mention the HK USP45C too. It's a great gun.
 
I carried a 1911 years ago. The .45ACP is an excellent Self Defense round. But now my M&P's in 40S&W have 15 rounds in about the same size package, so my 1911's are range toys.
 
I have been considering the Springfield Armory Garrison or the Milspec. But lately I have been considering the XD in a 45 (I believe it is the compact). It fits good in the hand, has a fiber optic sight, and holds 13 rounds. I already have a subcompact XD in 9mm, so there wouldn't be much of a learning curve.

I switch back and forth between my M&P 40 and 45. For the last couple of years since I retired and have been traveling through many blue states that have magazine capacity limits; I have stuck with the 45 because of this. I do miss the 46 round capacity of the 40 vs. the 31 capacity of the 45, but the 45 has the edge in speed and energy.

Question DaveTN, is the M&P 40S&W ambidextrous? In that, I mean can the safety be worked left or right-handed?

My Full size and Compact 2.0 in 40, and my Full size 9 do not have safeties. My Shield 40 has a safety, buts it not reversable. I believe all of the mag releases are reversable.

I am an H&K fan and have the VP9 and .45 Tactical. For some reason I thought they weren't making the .45 compact anymore. Thanks for the heads up.

It's all shooters preference obviously but I don't want the external safety. I shoot a sidearm leftie so I care about the mag release. One reason I like the H&K

I don't want a safety either. When I bought my Shield that's all they had, I don't use it.

I have a 30SF and its a good shooter. It's not my edc but I have carried it some. It's not overly bulky or heavy at all. I carry it owb at 3 o'clock in a kydex holster.

The only "drawback" is that the magazines aren't as long as my g45 9mm. So when I practice mag changes I have to get used to grabbing the shorter mag instead of having a lot of real estate to grab onto.

I prefer all my semi autos have thumb safeties. I trained and carried 1911's and High Powers cocked and locked for years. It's muscle memory for me and prefer to keep them all the same.
