I'm making a couple of compost bins out of pallets. Do my compost bins need lids? Or is the rain and weather good for the compost?
Any other DIY compost tips? Thanks.

don't want em to get too wet as far as I know. Too wet and they will go anaerobic and smell bad. Turn the compost every few days and keep it moist, not dry or wet. I would use a lid unless there is very good drainage.

I cover my compost with heavy black plastic to keep rain out and to help the sun heat it up. I do not turn the compost or do anything with it. If it heats up enough, it will kill weed seeds. My compost is basically made from horse manure and after two months of "cooking" under the plastic, turns into beautiful crumbly black compost which my plants love.
