Deer movement was virtually zero on cameras this morn in TN. Starting at 1230 today, they began piling out of the woodwork to the plots. I have pics of 8 to 10 deer in the frame at the same time on multiple plots on multiple farms for past hour.
Yesterday morning to this morning we're ghost towns on our cameras.

I was off today, so hunted in south MS... I hit sun exposed pipelines surrounded by plantation pine. As soon as the sun came up, deer filtered into the bright sun from out of the shade of the pines. They just stood there sunning themselves for 45m (i ended up seeing 5 total), didnt even feed... just wanted the sun to warm them up.

We hit 23 last night down here. Thats officially the end of my fall tomatoes 😞

Here in East Tennessee the deer must be a little tougher. 😄 I had a pile of deer on cam and some of my better bucks. It started at 7:45 and was solid all day. I had one buck come through today that I've not seen in a month.

For sure! my middle TN deer are pampered

But as I suspected, they all finished feeding by 4p and headed for thermal cover an hour before dark.

I did pick up a new buck at 1230 today. Its so hard to age them this time of the year when you haven't seen them before. I suspect he is 3.5, based on lack of staining of tarsals.

-10 degrees for me. I was 10yrs old and hunting in an old wool suit my grandma made me. It was like a maroon color. It was my cold weather suit. I was comfortable and I was wearing sorel caribou boots. I killed a deer and within 30 min the blood was freezing in the cavity of the deer.

About 15 years ago, -23 deg, N and slightly W of Craig Colorado. Harvested a 4 X4 buck that same morning. Friend had just had surgery so stayed back at camper, He looked outside and saw a big fat doe. He stepped outside and shot it but I wound up dragging it back to camper. Wasn't all that bad as I was dressed for it and dragging that buck warmed me up. BTW, I was walking the entire hunt, which was NOT my normal way.

I havent found it yet, as I have never canceled a hunt due to cold temps. Not always have I been warm and happy but never stayed home because it was cold. I remember a hunt many years ago when we had a late MZ season in December, it was 7 deg with a steady 20 mph wind and gusts even higher. It was miserable sits on stand. -5 or -6 coldest sits I ever remember but the wind was calm and actually wasnt as miserable as hunts mentioned above.
Can count one one hand the few times ive ever been in a shooting house or blind with a heater.

depends on the rut phase and what im hunting. south of 20, it better be a big deer during the rut or late pre-rut

Pro tip on the real cold days in a tree… they're $10 for a 3 pack, last over 12 hours, and really help warm that core. Sold in the pharmacy section of Walmart/CVS/Kroger etc. just like a hot hands for your torso
