Didn't even reach 30 today and started at 12 degrees. Between hunting and driving, I saw at least 18 deer - 8 hunting this morning, 8 or 9 in fields by the road and 2 hunting this evening. The first ones of the morning were about quarter after 7 am in a field across property line. Then there were three in CRP I tried to stalk around 930-10 am. Then sometime between 2-3 pm I saw the deer in fields by the road. The last two I saw were across the line on private while I was hunting public, they were about 15 mins before sunset. All of the deer except the last 2 were out in full sunlight. I guess I can't blame them... So according to today's observations, the deer seemed to like full sunlight anytime from early morning to mid-afternoon to warm up.
 
Is there a such thing as being too cold for deer to move? Guess that would be a question for BSK....i've always wondered?

My experience in Clay county is when it's cold as can be, the deer seem to stay on sunny side of ridges and they move all day when the suns out. Keeping warm? I guess so. But it sucks being in a stand for 5 hours before they seem to move...
 
I always see more deer in morning hunts after the ground starts thawing. Evening hunts I see deer this time of year late in the day. If I had only one time of day to hunt late in the season and when it's as cold as it is now it would be the evenings.

Probably, yes. I've noticed that during extremely cold weather in TN (teens and below), deer are far more likely to move at mid-day, when temperatures are warmest.
 
I've noticed on those really cold mornings (low 20s and lower) there isn't as much activity as most would think. It's usually around 9am when they start moving on my places when it's really cold..
 
I went this morning. The wind was nonexistent despite them calling for 10 MPH S. Nothing moved till 7:45 and it was squirrels. At 8:15 had 3 does ease by in a cedar thicket, no shots to be had, just watched em slip through.

Had to get down around 9 as I had to get home. I was in Wilson Co today. the thermometer in the car read 18 when I pulled up, but i was bundled up and really never got cold.

it was 12 yesterday morning and I didn't get cold at all
 
Does seem to be grouping up where I hunt. Saw 7 at 7:30 this morning. Popped one. First time this season I have seen them moving on a cold morning early. Usually don't see much until after 9 when temp starts to rise.
 
I saw 4 bed down this morning in a field where the sun was going to hit them as long as they laid there... or until the sun went down.
 
Two spikes, two mature does and two yearlings in one group at dusk tonight. Nothing moving before then.
