Some of you guys wanted me to keep you posted about my clover/chicory mix i put in back in march. Despite planting late march( i much prefer early or mid), and the drought period we had in april,. i'm VERY pleased with my results so far. Had to spray for grass few weeks ago,. the grass during the drought came in fast and was choking my germinating clover and chicory out even faster. Got the grass out and got some rain,. and it has seemed to save me. I'll admit,.. i've never been a big fan of the buck on the bag type seed(except a few),.. i used it years ago and it wasn't no different. BUT,.. something is different with imperial verses 10 years ago imperial. Despite the short drought after planting, grass takeover, and even a warmer april than average,... germination has been awesome and fast,. and good top growth is coming on quick. AND,.. to my surprise,. the burseem clover that they put in the mix actually came up for a cover crop. Most of the time,. burseem is a fall plant only annual,.. i never expected it,. but its doing its job,.. and browse is very good all around. VERY impressed with the chicory also. I've always been a big fan of tecomate chicory,.. but the deer are allready hitting the chicory in this imperial mix. Maybe it does taste better to deer,... i'm not gonna speculate on that,.. but its doing very well. Few bare areas,. but i see new clover trying to come in. So,.. for now,. i'll have to say,. imperial chicory plus is doing great and i'm very pleased with my results. Lets see how it does the next few months!!
Pics took today,.. plot planted on march 27th

What did you use to kill the grass?

Arrest grass herbicide. I'll have to do it again in about a month,.. having more problems with grass this year over any other in this plot. Don't know whats up with that!!

Any herbicide labeled just for grass will work,. arrest just seems to work alittle better ,.. IMO. Make sure its just for grass if you have chicory in the mix,.. weed control is done by mowing because chicory is a weed.

You can get the generic form of arrest for much cheaper at the Co-op under the Hi yield brand labled grass killer and the main ingredient is Sethoxydim......
you will save about 25 to 30% if i remember correctly.

Camoman270,.. i know this is gonna sound strange,.. but i got the W.I. arrest herbicide much cheaper. The HI YIELD grass herbicide was $40 something a pint,. the W.I. arrest was $28 a pint tax included. I typically use the hi yeild products,.. but couldn't pass up that price!!
