planted new food plots on March 1 and clover is over a foot tall with oats at about 2 and a half. weeds are a minimum. should it be cut? clover has not come to a head

Those oats will dry down and go to seed before long anyway, so they wont hurt anything. Might wait another week or two o clipping the clover, since it is newly established. Just dont cut it really low, just the tops.

I'd also try to cut it just before it rains. Because of it being a new stand...but as long as you just cut a few inches off the top it should be ok

Been meaning to PM you and see how your planting went,.. sounds like it went very well. Proud its working out for you.

Can't add nothing to your question that has not been said,.. keep the cut at 6 inches or higher. doing mine this weekend for the first time this year. Only thing i will add is if you bush hog, and if you get spots were the cut shavings pile up,.. you will be better off getting that out or breaking up the pile,.. it will smother the clover underneath if the pile is left.

Did you go with chicory also? If so, let me know how you like it late summer/early fall.

dc, thanks for your help. I did add chicory and it really took off in one of the plots. the other two do not show any chicory at all(seems strange to me) but one of the plots is really thick with it. I suppose we cut it as well?
