Need some advice on climbing stands. I'm a new hunter and I'll admit that climbers make me a bit nervous! What is a good stand for rifle hunting? I appreciate the advice!
 
A Summit Viper is what I have used for the last 8 years and love it. Not lightweight but not too heavy(newer models are lighter).Comfortable and you sit and climb. No matter what stand you decide to buy,get a safety harness also. It could save your life. Good Luck
 
I just got the ne alluminum version of the grande Ole Man. it only weighs 20 pounds, They have also upgraded the fram work for stronger support. It is awesome.
 
i use a summit razor pretty much same thing as the viper expect the bar in front can be moved. Always works good for me and has a safe feeling to it. just my .02 cents
 
As seen here, I would expect you to get numerous suggestions as many hunters here have many differing opinions based on their personal experience.

I like my Ol Man climbing stands. I have used them since 1993 with no regrets thus far.

A cougar claw almost cost me my life about 15 years ago. slid out from under me, I destroyed it, was afraid to sell or give it away.

As you can tell, everyone has their favorite. I won't chime in except to say this...whichever one you choose, since you are new to climbers, get out and practice with it.
Remember, just because you 'can' doesn't mean you have to climb up to 30 feet or more. I've killed just as many deer from 13 feet up as I have from 25 feet up. Yes, the wind does still swirl when you are in a tree plot, and the higher you get the less that swirl hits the ground. However, with scent-killing products you can negate a lot of the effects of the wind and hunt lower.
Also, use an equipment lift rope for your gun and gear. Too many people try to climb with all their stuff on their body, and it's not safe.
But the MOST important tips on using a climber are these: Don't get in a hurry to get up or down the tree, and CONCENTRATE on what you are doing as you climb or descend.

i have a summit viper ss and i love it. I would not hunt in a tree until this year so thats saying alot for me. Try a couple out to see what is most fitting for yourself, thats what i did. Good question tho it never hurts to ask.
 
ole man is very easy to set up on a tree and very comfy, I have had a little trouble with the hose squeaking any solutions
 
if its made by summit or api you cant go wrong. just get used to whatever you decide on before you head to the woods with it make sure you feel safe and comfortable in it. good luck
