climbing stand question

I agree on getting there early. Summit and API are pretty quiet, but I try to get in the tree at least 20 minutes before daylight (thats breaking daylight, not shooting light). I think I make more noise walking in, attaching to the tree than climbing.

Yezzir they are. Got a little late start this morning and got in the woods just after daylight. Already had two does and a fawn within 60 yards. I climbed without them knowing I was there.
 
It's normal for there to be some noise in the woods, limbs breaking, nuts falling, squirrells making a racket. Deer may sometimes stop and stare at these noises but usually they resume doing whatever they were doing.
On the other hand......any metallic sound or anything out of the ordinary will spook the heck out of them.

Climbers are pretty popular in TN? I didn't kn ow anyone that used them in Wisconsin, everyone used ladder stands, hang-ons or ground blinds.

I know alot of people who use climbers. But there not for me.

I've never used one but like my sturdy ladder or hang-on myself. Late season when it got cold and the snow came, I'd move to a preset ground blind.

But if they are the norm here in TN I just figured I'd need to buy one and learn to use it.

I never really had to worry about that in the past. I am spoiled now, 180 acres of private land. We'd spend all spring and summer prepping the land around our stands and/or hanging new ones.
 
yea im pretty quite to when climbing. but usually pretty clumsy when putting the stand on the tree and when seperating the platforms when straped together
 
I like to be settle in a hr before it even starts to break day. Gives everything time to settle down if you do make a little noise. And i will add that my summit is quiet

I have seen 17 deer in five sittings this year and have killed two does. All out of a Summit Climber and 3 of those times I had to carry it in and get set up..... : This has been in E. TN

Killed all my biggest bucks out of a Climber. The advantage.... Hunt higher and longer.... :) I hunt in Summit climbers 99.9% of the time.. :)
 
I use a Summit climber but found one serious problem with it. It is so comfortable, it is easy to fall asleep.

On a serious note, I don't think climbing a tree or coming down bothers deer unless you are just careless and make lots of noise.I no longer use a rope to raise and lower my rifle when using a climber. I simply sling the rifle over my shoulder and have killed a few deer while I was lowering myself down the tree. The deer had seen me and were just standing there watching me as I unslung my rifle and shot.
 
Last year I eased up a creek found a tree I liked climbed it turned around set down and started to pull my bow up and it caught on a limb. When I tugged it free a nice 8 stood up gave me one quick look and bolted. I made it up the tree rite at 20 yards from him without spooking him. I knew it was a thick area and was sure deer were bedding down in this spot so I took it extra slow and quiet but it can be done.
P.s. that experience was the first time I posted on tn deer. I registered waited on my approval and wrote a whole long post all while setting in the stand in disbelief about what had just happened.
