I clean my rifle after every trip to the firing range. I have been going to the range every week, so I am a little concerned about possible wear on my rifle. Will shooting once a week and cleaning it with a bore guide and a nylon coated rod wear down my gun in a short period?
 
It is a Marlin 30 30. Sounds like a gloomy picture if I shoot alot. It is a real good shooter right now and want to get out and enjoy shooting it, but I hope I can get a few years out of it.

You will get many years out of the gun how hot the barrel gets will affect the lifetime of the barrell though, and how many rounds between cleanings. clean from the breech tward the front of the barrell so as not to wear out the muzzell .
 
Ok, what would be considered excessive amounts of rounds fired between cleanings? I usually take three shots and let the barrel cool for 5 minutes. I go through a box of 20 shells, then go home and clean from the breech end with a bore guide and a one-piece nylon coated rod with Hoppe's #9 and M Pro 7 copper cleaner. I run a patch with Hoppe's gun oil one time through the barrel when I am done.

You are shooting correctly and should have years of use out of your rifle like this.

Enjoy shooting it. If you wear it out then you have an excuse for a new barrel or rifle. If you're like me that'll probably happen anyway before you wear this one out though.

The more rifles you have, the less wear there will be per rifle. Also, the wife won't be able to tell when just one more appears.
