Cleaning a trap ?

Ok so you catch something in your MB550.
You are going to pull it and move to another location with it.

Do you have to re-boil and re-wax it completely?
How do you clean it to be scent free again?

Once I pull a trap that has caught something, it goes in a pile with other like traps until they get completely retreated. I power hose them, boil to clean with a couple drops detergent, boil again to dye, then wax.

It's just not worth the risk of a contaminated trap at a set. To go through all the work of making the set and possibly lose one or more catches before realizing there's a problem. K-9's will let you know when your traps are contaminated.

That's one of the reason I have many more traps than I can possibly have in the ground. Too much trouble to keep up in the fur shed during season to be worried about retreating traps.

I boil my traps on the kitchen stove. All the dirt and debris has been hosed off. I have a big turkey frier pot for this purpose. I boil them all clean one or two nights while watching TV, go through several dozen of the course of a night. Then the next night or so dye them in the same pot. Waxing happens outside. When boiling, I string them together in groups of 4 or 6 with lengths of 14 gauge wire. Might have 2 or 3 strings in the pot at the same time. Gets real heavy.

Ruger I use Formula 1 dip, after a catch I pressure wash it real good and re-dip, hang it over night and it's good to go in a day or so.
