Which pellets are the cleanest burning?I have been using the pyrodex pellets and they seem to be pretty dirty.Is there a cleaner burning powder that isn't pellets?I really would rather use pellets as to mess with measuring the powder out.The reason i ask is that I used the last of my pellets and need to go and get some more.Im gonna try Hornady's new bullet out.
 
777 has been the dirty powder out of my rifles,have to take a hammer & drive the 3rd shot in,i'll stick with the pyrodex till i get a savage :) i reckon primers may have a hand in the fouling but who knows for sure as all guns are diffrent along with the diffrent bullets,mike243
 
Check out this new stuff this year called blackhorn 209 ,google it and read away .I have about talked myself into buying some.

I have had less fouling with 777, faster ignition and fuller powder burns. I do not know how a person could think that Pyrodex burns more or has less fouling than 777.

Change you primers is a good idea if you are having that much trouble. But, hands down in my book 777 beats Pyrodex. All ML are different in what charge they will shoot a certain weighted bullet the most accurate. With any powder you could adjust the charge until accuracy is acheived. The difference is how much cleaning you will have to do between shots, the amount of speed you are getting out of that charge and how fast it ignites. And between every shot you should be atleast spit patching. Also, if you shoot loose powder you will be able to make smaller adjustments in your charge to acheive the best charge for the bullet you are shooting. It really is not any harder than the pellets. After finding your best charge, make up some quick loads. Using tube containers, that you should be able to find almost anywhere, and fill them with your premeasured charge. It's as simple as dumping into the barrel adding your bullet and primer...BOOOOOOOM! spit patch and do it again... :grin:

I might have to join you on this experiement... They make some strong claims. I e-mailed them to get some info. If I can get a hold of some I'll give it a "shot". Looks good though...only one I have seen to be engineered specifically for 209 ignition and claims no swabbing at all between shots...I have to see that! :grin:

I'm with you on that stalker .You know they said you didn't have to swab between shots with pioneer powder also and we know now thats a load of bunk. I got a new riffle on the way and I want to start it out with the 209 ,so i plan on getting some .Mid south shooters supply has the stuff ,but it says they have to have a copy of youre ID on file before they will ship so I guess I will give them a call today. If anyone around Memphis knows of anyone who sells the stuff locally let me know ,I would much rather drive in and pick some up than pay a 20 or 30 dollers hazmat shipping fee on top of the 30 bucks a can for the stuff.

stalker you cant change the charge much when your shooting pellets,lets have a shoot off & see how many times your will fire with out using a hammer to load it,mike243

What on earth are you talking about? ...if you will read further into what I typed, I did not specify pellets to changing charges for accuracy which is why I mentioned using loose powder. But since you bring it up...You can use 30grn or 50grn pellets and use 1,2,3 or any combination of the 2 as long as they are the same brand and you do not over charge your weapon...adjusting your charge this way is really no way of finding the true charge to a weapon matched with a specific bullet, you will get close but never find the true charge (which is where the most accuracy and fullest powder burn accur).

I've shot as many as 15 times with out doing more than a spit patch or two and have not had any loading problems out of my Remington Genesis...However accuracy tends to fall off after 7 or 8 shots spreading the shot group to inside the "pie plate" but not the 1" to 1.5" groups common to the first 3 to 5 shots.

A shoot off... :laugh: You will never see me take a hammer to any of my weapons...only hammer action is the hammer dropping onto a primer! BA...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I like the Remington primers...I use to use the Winchesters but when I replaced them with the Remingtons it was night and day! I am sure that there are other good primers out there, I just happened to land on the Remingtons and liked them. I think that you will see a ton of difference changing to 777 and getting decent primers. Also, if you can handle it loose is the best way to go for best accuracy and powder burning. Spend as much time as possible shooting and cleaning. Atleast a spit patch or two between shots.

Before we know it the season will be upon us!!!

Just priced some powder and primers and bullets and they wanted to charge me a $20 HazMat fee!$20,No way! That is outragous.That is all places,guess it is a shipping law or something.Never ordered it online before,guess i'll have to go to Bass Pro as bad as i hate to!!LOL.They don't charge you that fee when you order regular cartridges online.Go figure!
 
according to the reasons for the 777 developement was that it was cleaner burning as well as better cleanup...ie with water..
