clay marbles

have a buddy that found a whole bunch of clay marbles while digging out for and out building. Is there any hope that these could be indian artifacts?? what is your opinion?

I have a bunch, they did make them. Are any broken.... so you can see the inside...

The ones i have are made from pottery. Fired.

he cracked one open, what would you look for inside?

Well if it was fired, it will be black with white specks. The specks are mussel shell. Then you know it was for sure Indian made.

They also could have not made it to get "fired". Have you found other things around them, flint, pottery, ect.......

they are actually called game balls.. I have one made of limestone... perfectly round.. found while dove hunting.. neat find!

Me to funny thing is, I found mine on a late paleo-early archaic site.

These may be very old, but I'm pretty sure they are not indian artifacts. They are naturally occurring clay balls, called pisolites. I've picked up lots of these in south Georgia. They are made up mostly of the mineral gibbsite, which is aluminum hydroxide.
