Anybody know the kill numbers from the muzzleloader hunt this past weekend?

I am wondering the same thing. We have a party of 4 scheduled to hunt this weekend for the rifle hunt. We normally get drawn every year for one of the hunts. The past 2 years we have seen more numbers and decent bucks. I have heard the Swan was hit hard by EHD. We plan on scouting Thursday. Anybody been this year?

I guess Chuck Swan doesn't update the kills electronically. Hunters Toolbox is only showing 2 does were killed there last weekend.

they still do paper check out, there was 47 bucks killed on the muzzleloader we saw way fewer deer than normal but there are still deer there, we saw four small bucks in a day and half but no shooters, the largest killed was a 136# 11 point about a 130 in deer

I'm drawn for the hunt this weekend but I believe I'm going to stay home and hunt. I called the park manager and talked to him Saturday night after the hunt. He said the bucks killed were half of the normal years. He and 3 others were drawn for last weekend. He knows the park like the back of his hand I'm sure and he and his 3 hunting partners saw 1 spike total. He said he has found over 1000 dead deer in the park from ehd. Said there were still deer dying from it after their juvenile hunt in early October. Said he sees hardly no deer in the park at all anymore and has nothing on trail cameras. He said next year the draw hunts will be affected by this to try to get the deer back on track. They already changed to a non bonus hunt before the ehd hit to try to build the numbers back up some and now over 1000 confirmed deer dead from ehd. I'm dying to go but I don't feel like I'll have any luck hunting a deer cemetery.

We will go anyway. It is always fun even if we don't kill anything. For us, it is like going on a destination hunt even if it is only 2 hours from home. We are taking a new hunter this year, just hope he isn't turned off of hunting if there is little action. I still have 2 buck tags so I won't be too picky!

Well if that is true why would TWRA not cancel all hunts!!!!

I really do not understand TWRA's so called management of situations like this current outbreak, or maybe I should say lack of management.

The gun and mzl hunts are buck only. It will take a couple years to build back up, but a few days of buck only hunting right now won't have much of an effect down the road.

Its not been a bonus buck in several years the best I remember, I put in for several years and when it went state wide limit I quit, the draw hunts to me should be bonus and not count against your state limit,I quit looking at it several years ago

plenty of people just not much going on, this weather should make a difference this weekend, there was 12 trucks parked in my not so secret spot lol

lol sounds like my luck......im going down on wed so i can look around a few days hoping to atleast find some sighn that will make the long cold sit not so bad lol

We hunted last weekend. We scouted on Thursday and found pretty good sign in a couple of our usual hunting spots. Other people were scouting in some of the areas so we decided to go to a spot we had found on the turkey hunt this spring and found some good sign there. Hunted hard all day on Friday, I saw a one horned, 3 inch spike chasing a few does around in a thicket but couldn't get a shot. Ended up seeing 9 deer on Friday, all does except the one. Hunted till about lunch on Saturday before we did a little driving around. 4 does seen while driving around. As far as we could tell, there didn't seem to be a big decrease in what we normally see as far as numbers and sign. Still plenty of hunters showing up. When we checked in our hotel, the guy said this is the first year he has not been full on this hunt. Said he had 12 cancellations because of the reports of EHD.

thats good to hear that you seen some atleast im hoping to atleast see some myself but we shall see thanks for the update.

We hunted there last Friday and between 2 of us we seen 15 deer by 1:00pm and would have seen more but we both tagged out on 9 pointers. :super: New to this and don't know how to post pics so if someone could help me I'd be glad to post them

This is the 9 pt that I killed Friday

Holy smoke, hes found over 1,000 dead just this Fall? I cant imagine they would even have the hunts, as thats WAY more than the goal they set to kill each yr, matter of fact multiple yrs totals. Unbelievable???
