I recently got another chrony. Opted for a caldwell ballistic something. Had good reviews and has an app for your smartphone. Thought that would be nice for recording info as I tend to lose it. I've been working on loads for my 243. Decided to shoot 85 gr sierra gamekings. Using imr 4064. 38.5 grains. On a 9 shot string I have an average of 3164. Es is 31. Sd is 9.9. Group is fair but with hunting season around the corner I don't wanna play with the load anymore. My question is are my es and sd close to what I should be looking for.

Whats the min & max? All guns are different.id throw out the flyer as the others are a good group

Isn't bad on ES and SD. Little bit of vertical stringing but for a hunting gun thats more than fine. How far apart were the shots? Or did you shoot all 9 in a row?

I ended up shooting another over the chrony after I posted. My max was 3179. Lowest was 3146. I know for sure that I didn't shoot them all in a row. I shot some others in between. I'm thinking I done 6 and than 5. Had one that didn't read. The flyer ( highest on target) was the first shot of the day.

As an opinion, Yeah, the ES and Sd numbers are good. The 9-shot group is slightly less than 1.5 inches. Again, not bad. Actually with a hot barrel it does not surprise me you see some stringing taking place.

So how is the Caldwell? Soon as I shoot my Chrony that was the one I planned on getting.

I like it. It seems on par with what my chrony f-1 read with my 308. As far as the app. I never got it to work. I plan on dropping an email before my next range trip.

The barrel never got hot. Once it was warm I put it up and grabbed something else. Had 3 guns with me so I had options. Also took me about 2 hours to shoot 20 rounds between the 3. What I don't understand about the 243 is I'll have a cluster that's same as touching and another cluster but they'll be out a bit. Not sure if it's me or do I need to adjust something

Sounds like it may be a bedding issue...

It could be. It's in a wood stock. Until the screws are drawn tight it's very sloppy. I've thought bout bedding it but not sure of the best route/easiest route. I've seen it done once. Seen a ton of videos. Just can't bring myself to try it lol. And pillars could be an option. The gun is a pre accutrigger savage 110

Its not moving around much, just a little. Probably be a good candidate for just bedding the recoil lug.

What could I use to bed just the lug. I know some like Devon and acraglass or whatever. But I don't need but just a little lol
