I grew up in Lansing, IL which is south of Chicago (almost in Indiana). There is a forest preserve there that we used to camp at when I was in scouts. There are some MASSIVE deer in there. They dont allow hunting, so those things grow old.. and big. Unless they get hit by cars/trucks.

I did some technical training in Schaumburg a west burb of Chicago and saw some huge bucks in thier municpal park.

Parts of SE Wisconsin are getting like that. Deer are more likely to die of old age or get hit by a car than serve as part of the food chain

They are stil part of the food chain if they die of old age or get hit by a car: Buzzard, coyotes, maggots, flys, coon, hawks, eagles, & bugs.

I suppose thats true, but I think those you mentioned are getting more than thier fair share of deer in SE Wisconsin. Farms being sold off and being made into subdivisons or strip malls that sit empty.
