Anyone looking for them, Walmart in Milan has several 3 gallon and a few 7 gallon dunstan chestnuts. They are not outside like they had them last year, but are instead inside the garden center. Imagine other stores probably have some too.

Thats interesting....I noticed the same thing...our local Walmart didnt have the outside parking lot area roped off for trees this year....guess they dont wanna give up the parking spots?
The Milan store typically had all the trees lined up along the outside wall of the garden center, they never had them in the parking lot that I can recall. I assumed they moved them inside the store possibly due to theft, but that is just an assumption on my part.

Last year when I bought some they were still in the crate and I hat to open the crate and get the trees out myself. I was going to get a few this year but dont have the time to deal with them.

If you wait a while they will put the extras on clearance. I bought 4 chestnut and 2 southern crab apples for 20 bucks a piece last year on clearance.
Last year they were gone before they ever had a chance to mark them down here. Being inside the garden center may change that this year. Will check next time I get to the store.
Checked this morning and the store here still has the chestnut hill trees at full price and still inside the garden center. They do have a few other trees outside, but they aren't chestnut hill trees.
They are now on clearance at the Milan store. Marked down to $15 a tree, and moved outside. I bought one regular dunstan.

Planted my first 3 dunstan chestnut in 2021......at year 3 one tree had a handful and the other two hand one or two.
At year five....one tree was loaded with dozens of chestnuts. One had several and one had actually died but has since sprouted back. Pruned it to a single stem and its looking good....from the tree that was loaded I picked up a handful of chestnuts and stratified them in fridge. 4 out 5 are doing well....pic attached.
So in my experience producing in 3 to 5 years is pretty accurate.

Thank you. This is year three for about a dozen I have planted. I then have some two's and a few I planted this February.
Checked Lebanon today. They have some outside but doesn't say anything about clearance on them.
Three to five years. I had 2, two year old trees produced husk. One had two one had six. Believe I posted the pictures in the below thread.
I grow Dunstans from nuts. Been doing it for 11 years. Sell seedlings in the fall and this year will have two year old trees also. See the thread "Dunstan Chestnut Trees", start reading from post #92.
Have four orchards with almost 300 Dunstans and 80 other wildlife fruit trees.

These are 15. they will produce a few at 3 to 5 but dont expect much till at least 10.

Are you sure? Are they enlarging. The long fuzzy thing is the male flower. The two round things are the female flower. If the female flower starts enlarging then you got husks. Did you buy 3 gallon or 7 gallon trees?
I thought they were nuts/husks, they are bigger around than a quarter. This was a 3 gallon tree. The chestnut hill tree I bought last year also has a few very small round spiky balls on the catkins, maybe the size of a pencil eraser. My whitetail hill trees don't appear to have anything going on yet, but I haven't looked down inside the tubes.
Female flowers usually are dime size to nickel size. Female flowers turn into the husk. I would say one to be quarter size it got fertilized and growing into a husk. Good deal.
I would suggest looking down the tree tubes. I always check my tubes early March to clean out leaves and wipe all the buds off but the top three. Then check 3 or 4 weeks later to make sure I only have one central leader growing. Want my tree putting all its energy into growing one central leader until it's out of the tube. Not one central leader and some branches in the tube.
