Hello, im thinking about getting another camera or 2 and i currently only have 1 cheap tasco from walmart thats about 4-5 years old. Now my cheap tasco still works, but i hardly ever get any pictures, and when i do there noses, tails or blurs. For instance back in the summer i made a salt lick and put out 80lbs of corn in a gravity feeder, i got a picture of a raccoon on the feeder and a deers tail and all the corn was gone, obviously it was missing pictures.Are the newer/ nicer cameras that much better? Im thinking of a moultrie 880 or A5 and ive heard about some brownings and coverts as well. I want maximum detection range and black flash i think. Thanks for your help
 
At one point I was a firm believer in the Tascos.. Not so much anymore.

Get a Moultrie 880i, 990i, Covert MP8 Black, or if you want to spend more the Covert Extreme Black 60. If you are wanting black flash and get a moultrie the regular 880 and A5 are not black flash.

Detection range isn't as important as trigger speed. All four of the cameras I recommended have a sensitive enough trigger to satisfy just about anyone. You will spend $600 on a Reconyx or buy a homebrew if you want anything better.
 
I have several of the Tasco Mini's 3mp from wally world. Had one go bad early this year, sent it back to Bushnell(owns Tasco Tcam Division I reckon now), and they sent me a new one. Hard to beat for the price. I have to contend with thieves on a constant basis, so if they find them, I'm not out much, compared to some $125+ cameras. JMO
 
I have one of the $99 bushnell cameras and I love it. Battery's last 4 months and it takes great pics and I like the 3 shot burst mode. But the first one I bought I had to exchange a few days later because the trigger was hung open and it took pics of nothing all day.
 
Sorry to hear you aren't getting many useful pictures. Like many electronics, trail camera technology has evolved relatively quickly. Today's factory cameras are quite a bit different than those from 4-5 years ago. I won't give you my opinion, but I'll give you my observations. I run a number of cameras in the $90 - $130 price range (Covert, Browning, Spypoint, Stealth Cam). Some are watching mineral sites, some are watching food plots, some are watching feeders, some are watching deer trails. I get lots of pictures of deer and other animals and a healthy percentage of the pictures are useful. That is my own personal experience and I've been happy with it.

My tasco is the older big one that runs on 4 c batterries, i wonder if bushnell was building them back then? And also i wonder what the trigger speed and detection range differences are? Im ok with a newer cheap cam again or maybe 2-3 for the price of a nicer one, i think the detection range is around 15ft on mine and its a white flash, is white flash really a bad thing? Thanks
 
I am new to trail cams this year. I am currently running 6 Moultrie A-5 cameras. I bought 4 on sale for $49 and 2 on sale for $59. I am well pleased with them. They take a decent picture and I was able to purchase several of them for what I could vs 2-3 of the higher quality cameras. Time will tell how long they last. Each camera is near or over 1,000 pics since the first of September.
