Hunting Saturday late afternnon, as light is fading fast.
No problem scanning with my Swarovski binos,because they gather a lot of light.
Saw 3 Deer in the binos, and went to my Omega with the Nikon Omega scope to take a shot.

Could not see them well enought to shoot.
Went back the the binos,found them again very visible.
Back to the gun,and no way.

Good example of what good optics can do for you.
If I had my VX-III or better on my gun, I would have taken a nice Buck at 130 yds.

You are only as good as your optics are in low light.

that happened to me about 10 years ago, and I swore it wouldn't happen again. That is why I have all VX-III's on my deer rifles and muzzleloader.

A 250 scope should not be the bad.
a 50 Tasco has better eye relief than this Omega.

Not knocking Nikon at all their Monarch's have almost made it on a rifle a time or two. But if you look at this list,why all the Nikons? Why do they out number the others by so much. Thats whats got me scared off them.

I'm not bashing Nikon,and like other makers, you have to spend more money to get better glass.

I thought with all the hype about the Omega, the scope made just for ML'ers, it would have been a good scope.

May have to spend 600 or so to get a good Nikon scope,just like with the other makers.

My VX-III can hang with my Swar binos fairly well.
I use the Swar/VX-III combo well in low light huting.

The Omega scope can't keep up with them.

Of course the Omega scope can't compare to the VX III or Swarovski.

It don't cost $600-$1500 either.

Then again, I don't own an Omega scope either.

I do own a few Nikons and have no trouble shooting past legal shooting time if I wanted to.

What power was the scope set on and how large is the objective lens? Exit pupil diameter is the number one influence in an optic's "light gathering" ability. For example a 4 power scope with a 32mm objective has an exit pupil of 8mm...larger than the average human pupil at dusk. No matter what the lens coatings are a scope is not able to see more available light than the average dialated human pupil. IF you have a 3-9X40mm and have it set on 9 power then your exit pupil is 4.4 to infinity...your eye is already dialated more than the optic...and you won't see squat ;)

Have seen that be a big player in fadeing light esp the higher it is set or ran to.

Maybe the scope need refocusing.
Never thought about it.

I have a Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 on my muzzleloader and I could shoot several minutes after legal shooting time. Last Saturday a 5 pt. came into the field right before end of shooting time so rather than spooking him I waited until he left. I looked at him through the scope 10 minutes after shooting time and I could have still shot him. I can't see spending big money on a scope to shoot any later than that.

I have a VX-III 4.5-14x44. It's a good scope. But it doesn't compare to my Zeiss Conquest and several other scopes on the market in that price range. The VX-III is over priced compared to other glass.
