Chasing is at its peak!

On our place in Wayne county, we are in the middle of the chase phase! Between 3 guys yesterday, 4 chases were seen..and ore than that over the last 2-3days.

Bucks were definitely on the move Thursday in Franklin county. Didn't hunt yesterday or today though so can't say after Thursday.

Had chasing on our lease and a large 10pt was killed next to our lease in wayne county also chasing a doe yesterday.

This may sound dumb..but why would the bucks chase harder in the second rut than the first? I've always been told the second rut is less intense

JMO, but it is my knowledge that ready does are harder to find since most were bred earlier on. The bucks are prety desperate to find them and once they do find them they really get after them....

I think the intensity does increase even later in the season with the bucks searching for the remaining unbred does.

Just imagine closing time at the local pub with ten guys and only one girl still there...lol.

I think BottomHunter hit the nail on the head. If few does are available, the bucks have to move a lot to find one. And I do like it when the bucks are moving.

It's probably the first rut. On our club they are just starting to get cranked up and no it's not the second rut. Most folks can't believe that deer in TN rut that late.

It probably isn't the 2nd rut for them, instead it is the 1st. A portion of the counties in Southern TN, along the Alabama border, and some in SW TN, has the initial rut starting in mid to late December and even as late as the first of January in isolated locations.

It's probably the first rut. On our club they are just starting to get cranked up and no it's not the second rut. Most folks can't believe that deer in TN rut that late.

Its kinda been weird this year up there. I have been seeing chasing since opening weekend of rifle season. The weekend of Dec.1 I seen 5 different bucks chasing. My daughter killed one of those. Last week was dead, seen deer but nothing to get excited about.

If you happen to be sitting in the right place after the initial peak of the rut and have a hot doe in your area the rutting action you see might very well be more intense than earlier. Fewer does in heat equals more competetion.
