Possible big changes are coming to gun and muzzleloader deer seasons in NC for next year.

There is discussion of a statewide 2 buck limit like TN has.

Johns River near Morganton is a decent spot. Some are youth only hunts but many are not. Right next to town but good deer and turkey.

Most hunts are farther east than I usually hunt.

I hear good things about Roanoke River hunts also but never hunted there though.

Speaking of NC, favorite permit hunts? Ever go on any?

We used to always do the pungo hunt on pocosin lakes NWR. Used to be a guaranteed slaughter but times have changed. Still good opportunities if you're willing to get off the roads. Lots of snakes and lots of bears. I've always heard good things about the Roanoke NWR hunt. Especially if you have a boat. I have friends who have hunted the Pee Dee NWR hunt. It's hit or miss but probably the best opportunity out of all the draw hunts for true trophy deer.

As far as the limits, the two buck limit change will only affect the eastern zone/dog running counties. The rest of the state has been 2 buck for years.
