Let the healing begin. While I'm sure injuries played a role this year because we definitely had em, his scheme was just insane to me. You can't blitz on every down and overrun the play. We got absolutely GASHED by the run game due to this.
I was on the fence all year with him until there at the end. I tried to remember how great 2024 was but maybe it was the Jimmie and joes more than x's and o's

Hell that's where Banks came from. But I don't know anything about Knowles and haven't searched

I think this is a home run hire personally.
Anyone know why Muschamp hasn't been talked about? He's just an analyst at UGA. I know he has a punchable face and terrible HC but he was a REALLY good DC. Excellent coach to safeties and UTs were awful. I don't know if he is the best man for the job but I think his name should be in the hat.
Knowles is one of the most respected defensive minds in college football. Vols will have to adapt to a new scheme and recruit stud lineman and linebackers which can take a couple yrs but if Knowles can't do it , it can't be done. I've heard his schemes take time to learn but he's top of the food chain on the defensive side. I'm guessing he's a hard nosed old school guy so if he's hired hope he doesn't rub folks the wrong way.

Nico scored several on the red algea last season as well. Penn State sucked this year and fired their coach. It was his first year at PSU. You do realize Knowles left the buckeyes after winning the NC ( lama lover didn't do much against him in that game with the Vols) to become the highest paid assistant in college football . Time will tell if he will be successful in Knoxville but if gump nation hired him you'd be elated ( that means happy).
Looks like he worked at Duke under Cutcliffe. That alone tells me this is very likely a good hire.

Don't know anything about Knowles but can't be any worse than what we saw this year. If he is the hire hope he can turn it around and at least teach them to tackle. This hit them and try to knock them off of their feet instead of wrapping up drives me insane.

He's HIGHLY respected as a defensive coach. He made Oklahoma St. #4 ranked defensively in the country and that's when Ohio State snagged him. He's old school and tough so he may not fit in unless they toughen up. Time will tell but it would be hard pressed to get a more qualified DC.
Knowles will transform UT's defense QUICKLY.
This guy can flat out coach some defense.
They're going to grab some studs from the portal to give some quick help, and the guys coming in the 2026 class are no joke.
When he inherits talent from day 1, his defenses are elite quickly.

I just want him to have the guys stop overrunning the rush. Saw it so many times this season. We blitz and blitz and blitz. That's great but when you end up gashed for 25yds because you overran the play, what's the point. Has to be a middle ground. Coverage sacks can work too guys!
