So I dropped off my 308 at the gunsmith to have my Krieger blank chambered and put on. I still have some time before he starts so I'm trying to decide on what reamer to have him use. I am using lapua 308 brass and will be using 175bthp and 155grain lapua scenar. I have found a few people doing the same and they were recommended a 308 tactical match finish reamer from Dave at ptg. It has a .343 neck and .098 freebore. Any other recommendations or suggestions one way or the other? I need to tell him in the next few days which to order. Thanks in advance.

I never had a 308 done but would think it would depend on if you was shooting from a magazine or single loading,,I think the `95 Palma reamer is the go to for 155`s but not sure if thats the Sierra 155 Palma bullet or the Scenaer,,the 155 Scenar is really long for a 155,,
I am pretty sure the same freebore works for the 155 Scenar and the 175 SMK but the 155 Palma or AMax would take a shorter fb,,

I do know the Scenar and SMK shoot well with a long jump to lands while if I was planning on shooting the Berger VLDs I would want my fb short enough to jam the bullets at mag length,,

I would load a couple dummy rounds with bullets seated to length I needed them and let the smith determine which reamer to get,,

I will be shooting from a dBm so I won't be able to seat out extremely long. The gunsmith just gave me a number to a guy to ask about a reamer he had used before so I'm gonna try that first.

I have a Krieger 1/11 twist in a 95 Palma chamber and you really have to watch what you're doing when loading for it as the throat is short (.050 freebore). The chamber was made for the original Sierra 155 and not the new Sierra 2156s nor the 155 Lapua Scenars. I would not recommend this chamber if shooting these bullets. Maybe consider a .308 Bisley as well.

I have read some on the bisley reamer but not a lot. I'm gonna try to call this guy today and see what he recommends.

this is kinda what I figured,,you dont want to have to push the bullets in the case any more than you have to,,I am sure if you could get Dave Kiff at PTG on the phone he could tell you exactly which reamer you need to load the 155 Scenars and 175 SMKs to mag length,,but I also understand that he isnt as easy to get in touch with as he used to be,,

you could probably get an answer at snipershide pretty fast,,I could post the ??there and see what they say,,there is tons of 308 shooters there,,

you can also use the `95 Palma or a minimum saami spec reamer and a throater to lengthen the freebore to exactly whatever you want it to be,,

I have considered calling Dave kiff to check. I'm not a snipershide member but I do lurk there. If you could post it that would be awesome. I appreciate the help.

Well I left a message for Dave kiff and then while doing research found where he recommends the bisley match reamer for exactly what I'm wanting to do so I believe that is the way I will be going.

I appreciate it timintn. I'm hoping to do this one and then slowly start piecing together one of the 3 remaining builds I want to do. I just want it how i,want it. Lol
