I have the covert special ops. Love it. Have to get an AT&T pay as you go plan but for 10$ per month you can get 1000? Picture texts sent. I have nothing to compare to, as it is my only text capable camera, but it's a great tool IMO.
 
Got a covert cell around Nov 2013 .IT was spotty at best and had good signal. Always thought something was wrong with it. Stopped working and covert sent me a 3g Model to replace it . Now the 3g has decided to eat new batteries in just a couple days and is intermittent with pics. Th ey are sending a new replacement with out giving me any problems. If I try again with another cell it might be bushnell but the warranty is good on covert.
FYI , I have a couple of covert non cell cams that work gr eat .
 
I have the Covert black ops 3G and I love them . I have had absolutely 0 problems with mine . Where I have them the service is spotty at best . It goes from one bar to no bars and it still sends fine but the batteries don't last as long . I have used it where It has great service and it works like a charm and batteries last about 2 months .

If you get a 3G make sure to do the firmware update that covert has on their website . It fixes a white out issue they were having as well as improving battery life .

We have a few Coverts running now. There problematic at best, but they work most of the time. I was thinking about trying a Uway but I've never even seen one. Do any of you have any experience with there stuff cellular or otherwise? Anybody making a homebrew cell cam?
 
I do think that some of ours is due to sketchy cell signal though. I heard the Uway cams get a little better cell signal

I've used three of their cams extensively (NT50B, VH200B, and U250), and 2 out of 3 I would not recommend (NT50B due to poor reliability and U250 due to poor image quality). I like the VH200B so much it's about all I use anymore. Their black-flash flash-extenders are top-of-the-line.
 
I use no cellular cams. First, considering the number of cameras I work with each year, the total cost would be prohibitive. Second, image quality on cellular transmitted pictures is too low for my needs. And lastly, many of the locations I work have poor to no cell signal.
 
Friend of mine has a company, HCO or CHO or something like that. It makes cellular cams and he has had at times to put up an antennae to boost signals. He has some in the 'bottom' below the bluff. Said they work fine except for a couple of spots with screwy reception. He also uses battery packs with his as he doesn't want to have to go change batteries all the time. He says most of the cellular cams work great but they need tweaking depending on where you put them. Hope to get one next year and try it.
 
Well I went with the HCO Spartan ATT version. Mostly because Verizon is giving them trouble activating their cameras. 2 year warranty also. We'll see I guess. I also made a steel box for it to keep the critters out of it, around my place Bears seem to like the taste of them.

Well it appears my new cam is DOA :livid: I shipped it back today. They wanted me to pay shipping both ways at first :rotf: Yeah that ain't happening! After they sent me a return label it's headed back. I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling that I should have with a new toy :(
 
Yeah, thats not a god way to start out. First the new camera doesnt work AND they want you to pay shipping both ways. Hopefully the next will work great. Keep us posted on how you like it please.
 
Well after sending it back 2 more times for repair they finally gave up on it and sent me a new one. Their customer service is pretty good but the technician is less than personable. Not one time did they even try to apologize for it taking them 2 months to make it right. Charlene the receptionist is a very nice lady and actually knows my phone number now LOL Due to the unbelievably crappy weather I've not been able to put it out yet. But, it seems to work around the house pretty good.
 
Do the newer cams have their own device ID that's used when setting up a sim card. I have an hco and it doesn't have an id so I have to argue with the ATT folks everytime I need a new card. They have to put the sim card in one of the store phones to activate it and then it still takes some playing around before the camera starts to acknowledge the card. I have the HCO mb580 I believe. Its two years old now.
 
The HCO Spartan I got was very easy to set up. Just buy a $30 data plan for 3 months worth of service. Much easier than the coverts that we have. Preforms about the same
