I am contemplating building and selling some ladder stands and/or shooting houses made of cedar. I have my own sawmill and plenty of big cedar trees (I can get 16 ' 8x8's ). Does anybody on here think I can actually sell these? Does anybody want one? I haven't priced anything yet, and anyone that has ANY input as far as this idea goes just let me know. I have construction experience, so that won't be any isssue.
 
If you're near West/NW Tn i would possibly be interested. My dad is excellent at making shooting houses but if it's a good deal it would save us the hassle of building one or two. Let me know a price when you figure it out.
 
I would be very hesitant to get in the business of selling stands. You will have no control over how they are set up and how long they are left in the woods, but the lawyers would come calling as soon as something broke and someone fell. Cedar isn't exactly a super tough wood either. Lots of them splintered in the snow we got earlier this year.

Even if a jury finds in your favor, you still lose because you had to pay a lawyer to defend your name. I could see doing it with a non-elevated shooting house, where it's on the new owner whether they raise it off the ground or or not. Just something to think about.

I live in Lawrence County and we are surrounded by Amish. One of them close to the house builds and sells cedar shooting houses and he stays way behind. My step-dad bought a couple from him last year and they looked to be well made. I'm not sure on the prices but I think he paid around $300 a piece for them on the ground and he put his own legs under them. Hope this helps
