Caught some Harpeth River carp

Well thanks to those of you who offered advice on carp fishing the creek which is tougher than your average pond. I went with the corn chumming and bought those big cans of whole kernel corn as seen in my other post.

On saturday... I got down there and saw carp before I even set up. There is a big grassy in there that looks at least 3 feet long with a big lamprey on his head. Haven't caught it yet.

I threw in a bunch of the corn where the carp like to hang around near the bank. Saw them start feeding within minutes and caught my first very quickly... 11 pounds 2 ounces.

Ended up hooking a total of 7, landing 4. The three that got away came off the hook, no line was broken. Fished with 8 pound cajun red cast and my trusty ugly stik.

I got to say these river carp put up a good fight! That and their size are the main reasons I like to fish for em. Also the challenge.

Now it's time to get Mr. Grassy and take the lamprey off his head. That fish must be 15-20 pounds judging by comparison with the other carp I see in the river.

Good Job! Told you that corn works. Hope you get the big one. I wish there were more places around M'boro with BIG carp in them. I don't fish for them often, but when I do i like to get one in the 15-20 lbs range.

From my experience, grass carp fight OK until you get them to the bank, then they see you and turn around and run out all your line while you hold on for dear life. The one I'm trying to catch is in the 15-20 pound range and I want to try and get him on 8 pound line.

this one was just under 50 lbs.

If I saw one over 20 pounds in the Harpeth River I would flip out... however, if it was in a river the size of the one in your pic, not so much. Fish can only get so big in the Harpeth so a 20 pounder is pretty huge for a small river. Very nice fish you got, I need to get out on some bigger waters and try get one of those. I might have to lay down the small stik and pick up the 7' med-heavy ugly stik to catch one of them 50 pounders. ;)

It's fun as heck, just find you a spot in a creek where the carp always hang around, usually you can see one or two as they come near the surface cruising around for food.

Cool videos. I like your writing style too. You should consider putting down some of your exploits on paper. Maybe start a journal... next up "The story of old lamprey-head." Whatever, you get my point. There are plenty of outdoor periodicals that need content. Don't be afraid to submit stuff. Worst that can happen is you don't hear back. Whether writing or videoing keep having fun and sharing your adventures. Don't be afraid to take chances about things you're passionate about.

And don't forget to post up when you catch the big one...

Thank you, sounds like good advice. As for the videos, I share what I've got on Youtube and try to keep it interesting. as for the writing, I have thought once or twice about publishing articles or something of that nature, but haven't looked into it yet. I could clean up my writing to make it more neat and grammatically correct if I need to (I get lazy here on the forum a lot)

Oh and I will definitely post up here if I get Mr. Lamprey Head. Judging by the other fish I have seen in the river, caught, and weighed, I'm sure this grassy is in the 15-20 pound range which would be the biggest fish I have seen in the Harpeth River.
