Glad this was a good ending but why didn't they just say that to your wife at first to say all of the extra commotion ?

I have to admit before I tell the story, this didn't end how I thought it would. It was an interesting night.

A few weeks ago my wife calls me upset to tell me that 3 guys had walked up on her in her deer stand, which as some can attest on here, is NOT an easy place to trespass. It borders a swamp and crazy thickets and is more than over 2/3 of a mile from a road, and I know the neighbors well. Made worse by the fact that she had deer all around her including a buck laying in the food plot right before they walked up.

I was furious. I jumped on my 4 wheeler and headed to a neighbors farm in the direction they went to head them off. Driving way faster than I should have I rounded up my neighbor who had some stuff stolen from his blind recently and we took off into the creek bottoms. When I got to the creek I knew I had to be close to them, so neighbor pulls out his pistol and fired several rounds safely down into the creek.

Then we saw them hurrying away through another field. I knew there were only a few places where they could come out. I called the Game Warden but he was unavailable, so I got a Sheriff to meet me on the backside of where I thought they would come out. Unfortunately, she wasn't any help (though she was kind and also, quite attractive. If I have to get arrested at some point, I hope she does it! Ha). Basically said if they don't catch them in the act its hard to prove. I decided that wasn't enough, so I drove up and down the road until I saw 3 guys around a 4 wheeler. I approached them unarmed and asked them point blank. They admitted it was them, and they were trailing a wounded deer that his son had shot (It was his first deer) and weren't paying attention to property lines. I was still upset, but was glad they owned up to it.

Rather than press charges, I offered to let them come look for the deer. The kid that had shot it was hesitant.

I was like, OH HELL NO KID, you've wounded an animal, broken the law and messed up my wife's hunt. I'm dragging you through the swamp to find this deer.

At first they couldn't find the blood trail and I was starting to get a little skeptical. But then we found it, and after FOUR HOURS and over 950 yards of tracking finally found the deer.

The kid had shot it in both front legs, no vitals at all. At least 3 inches below the chest. I still cannot believe we found the deer.

To make the story even better, it was the same buck that my wife had seen laying in the food plot. We found a pool of blood where he had been.

Overall all, very nice guys, very apologetic... glad to have met them. I also showed them an app to see property lines. We exchanged phone numbers and I know who I am going to call the next time I can't find a deer. The dad was a hell of a tracker!

Glad it worked out. Man I hate a trespasser. Btw, what's the landline app that you mentioned?

This is a great app. You can also go online and sync your property lines and stand locations to the website and then you have decent topo maps that you can look at.

Glad everything worked out and you found the deer.

Next time you go looking for a trespasser, leave your neighbor at home. Introducing gunshots into that situation is extremely dangerous and foolish.
