Caught 31

if I didn't lose count I caught 31 fish and threw a handful back but kept a lot of them. I was fishing with Mudbone and one of his buddies, but I got there almost an hour ahead of them and got a head start on the fishing, they were biting good in the cove especially the bluegills. But a couple of nicer bass took the big rooster tail I threw. All the gills were caught on a trout magnet under a bobber. Here are the ones I kept -

the biggest one, 2 lbs 2 oz, not huge but a nice addition to the stringer. I rarely keep bass but I felt like keeping these, they will eat good.

The biggest bluegill was pushing 9 inches but I didn't have a tape and haven't measured it yet, they will be filleted asap but I will measure the big gill before I cut it up.

going back in the morning with another friend, hope to catch a few more.

i have been pondering about those trout magnets.. do you just bait on a hook or do you use a jig head? let it set or reel it? what color? nice stringer!

they come with jigheads 1/64 oz and you fish them like any very small jig but when the water is a little choppy I like to put them under a bobber and let the waves jig the lure.

Trout and Crappie Magnets will catch just about anything that swims. Like Catman said, on a windy day just cast it out under the EZ Float and let the chop on the water do all the work. These lures have a unique action when "bounced" up and down from the water chop that will intice anything. I've caught bass, white bass, bluegill, crappie, lots of trout, even a small catfish on these. I've seen pics of small stripers being caught on the Crappie Magnet as well. I bet if you could get these things to sink fast enough you could get walleye and sauger on them too.

I frequently use them in the Caney, easy way to get a quick meal. If you're drifting them in flat water, you don't really need the bobber but add a few splitshots so you can cast better as these are extremely light weight lures. Rapidly twitch the lure just keeping it off the bottom and if there's fish around, it won't take long.

An absolute necessity is to use 4lb or 2lb flourocarbon line. That stuff is expensive so I just use regular 4lb line with a few feet of 2lb flouro as a leader. Be ready though with that light line. Bigger fish do eat these. I caught a fat, 14" white bass on one of these a few weeks ago. All the time you'll see several pound trout being caught on them too, I have yet to do that. Keep the drag set loose because you never know when you'll need it.
