Were did they bring in the new soil from to produce a 3.5 year old buck like the one on page 31 of the latest TN wildlife magazine??

Seriously,.. all you QDM folks and others on here that don't think QDM can make a difference in TN. Catoosa is a great example of what TN can really produce even in poor soils of east TN. All it takes is alittle management and a plan and stick with it. Can they produce record class bucks around every tree., NO,.. but QDM can make a difference on WMA,s , private lands, and public lands.

Great job and a big congrats to whoever deserves the credit on a successful QDM plan on a WMA in TN.

this is true. biggest deer i ever saw off catoosa was killed 22 years ago. a 6 x 6 monster. measured 176", not officially though.

tndrbstr and tennbuck,.. you have to look at the data and look at the big picture.Sure they produced big bucks before. BUT,.. not as many. Besides,. this is not a issue of large antlers,.. its about qdm success. And going from a harvest of 270 1.5 year olds,55 2.5 year olds,16 3.5 year olds, 1 4.5 year old in 1993 to a harvest of 24 1.5 year olds,182 2.5 year olds, 36 3.5 year olds , and 1 4.5 year old is a huge success for a WMA. If they could increase doe harvest ,. it would be even better.

I'm not saying i favor the 4 point on 1 side,.. but,.. this is proof that it can be a effective tool for saving the lives of 1.5 year old bucks on a qdm managed property.

BUT,. i will admit,.. that pic of that 3.5 year old is amazing. That much mass and tine length on a 3.5 anywere in this state is a accomplishment. With or without qdm,.. thats a hoss. BUT,. i guess the northern gene helps some also. Tennbuck,.. was that 6x6 aged?? Just curious!!

I just returned from Catoosa this past Saturday. I was drawn for the Rifle hunt the week before and the Muzzle-Loader hunt this past Thur.,Fri. and Sat. Seven of us were hunting and 3 of us took pretty nice deer. 10 pt/128 lbs./15 1/2 spread/3 yr. old.....8 pt./118 lbs./14" sppread/2 1/2 yr. old......8 pt./137 lbs./15 1/2" spread/2 1/2 yr.old.......All were taken during the gun hunt....I took the 8 pt./137 lb. one. I passed on a nice 8 pt. on the M-L hunt that was slightly smaller than the one I took during the gun hunt. Catoosa in my view is much better than it use to be. Our bucks were not "lifetime" bucks but, considering I had not been there in 15-20 years, I was happy. I am all for the point restriction and wish the whole state would do this. Now if Chuck Swan and a few others would follow suit.
