Has anyone had any luck bow hunting it this year.we did not hunt any of it this year but me and my son spent about 7 hours scouting it today. Places I have hunted in the past no sign at all I'm a little concerned

Re: Catoosa

I'm experiencing the same
Scouted myself for about 7 hours Saturday
Acorns like I've never seen in my life
No deer sign at all to speak of and hog sign everywhere you look

Re: Catoosa

I was scouting on bi-color side all day Saturday. There were so many acorns, it was like walking on marbles. What deer are left, don't have to go very far to eat. I did find one spot that looked promising, but who knows where those deer will be in 2 weeks. Didn't see a single fresh rub or scape.

I thought I'd see more people out scouting, but only saw 2 guys on 4 wheelers driving by when I was getting out of my car to check a new place out.

Re: Catoosa

I was up there with my son bowhunting during the open hunt. We saw great sign at all three spots we hunted. Fresh tracks, one nice rub and lots of freshly opened scrapes. Got busted twice the wind was terrible switching all over the place.

I'm all for it. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it back out to scout 1 more time before my first hunt. I'm just dumbfounded by the number of acorns I was seeing. I'll probably end up hunting a couple places that I liked the terrain features of that went between areas of good thick habitat.

Re: Catoosa

I'm with you BB I've never seen such an acorn crop.
The deer can just lay down and pick them up lol.
I'm going to try and get back this week before the juvenile hunt for my brother and maybe a couple more times before our draw hunts.
At this point I've not got a plan. The area I hunted last year had no sign other than an early rub and was covered with hog sign.
In all my years of hunting Catoosa I can't combine the hog sign and match the amount I found Saturday

Re: Catoosa

Forgot about the coolest thing that I saw.
As I was leaving a small Bear ran across the road in front of me.

Re: Catoosa

Looks like the youth killed 3 bucks and 9 antlerless deer this weekend. Which looks like it's an improvement over the 4 total deer they killed last year.

Re: Catoosa

Heading up Wednesday morning for the early muzzleloader hunt, hoping for good weather and a successful hunt this year! Me and my buddy will be staying in Genesis Campground. Good luck to all hunting there this week!

Re: Catoosa

Am I remembering right that I read somewhere, you can hunt either side, doesn't matter which your permit says? But you must check out your buck on the side your permit says?

You can hunt anywhere and pretty sure you can check in at nearest checking station.

We will be up there all weekend as well

Re: Catoosa

Hate to hear that Carlos! I will be up there early Wednesday to set up camp and scout before the Thursday opening. Hope my luck at finding deer has been better than yours. Going to hit up some of my old spots first to see if there is any sign. Have you been setting up cameras on Genesis or the Peavine area? I know you hunt them both.

Re: Catoosa

Good luck Brother, hope you kill a huge hog if you don't get a monster buck. Probably going to hunt near Myatt Creek myself. Going up in the morning and looking around. Hollar at me if you get around the Genesis Camoground.

Re: Catoosa

Glad to here you found buck sign and that the deer activity is picking up. I was hoping that the cold front that went through would get them going. I'm all packed up and heading that way in the morning. Hopefully I can find some good sign to hunt Thursday morning. I'm really excited to get back up there. I wouldn't mind getting on some hog sign if the deer sign is scarce. Keep me updated on your hunt and stop by the campground if you get a chance.

Re: Catoosa

I have scoured some and found a bunch of acorns as well and a little deer sign but no hog sign in the places I was scouting. I'm heading up Thursday to hunt Friday and Saturday. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Re: Catoosa

Guys, I'm all set in the tree. Pulled a card from my camera and I'm thrilled to have gotten a few pictures.

Could y'all help me tell how many different bucks I have pics of? I think there's at least two. Sorry for the poor quality pics.

I can barely see the sun starting to rise along the horizon. The owls are making their frightful noises, haha.

Best of luck to all of you guys!!

Catoosa

At 0800 a Spike came thru, worked a scrape for a couple minutes and eased across the Ridge.
Then at 0930 I reached for a my bag to get a snack and I heard a deer blow once. Looked up the Ridge and saw the buck, with the scraggly rack from the pictures, along with another deer moving back up the Ridge.

I've heard 2 shots this morning, both around 0730. What's everyone else seeing?

I'll check back in at 12-1230.

Re: Catoosa

Here are a few better pics of him. What are your thoughts? In the one sequence he appeared to be chasing a Doe.
