Buddy of mine went today he said he saw 0 deer and wouldn't be back
 
I'll be up Saturday had to go to Vandy today to have my sons eyes checked and gotta work tomorrow but I'm coming to hunt Saturday morning and scout out an area of interest after lunch for next year.

Went there a few years ago with two others. I did see one buck, but that was it for all of us . Not even one doe or hogs. It has to get a lot better before I would go back.
 
Catoosa's management is a joke and has been for years. Anyone know how many deer has come off of it this year?
 
I have no issues with the QDM they have in place the only issues I have with them is if you are going to have a program in place they need to plant the fields to produce the quality of bucks and does they want not a strip of rye grass they eradicated the hogs so they can plant corn yet to see that I do believe the restrictions help but to have a QDM it's more then just putting 4pts on one side they can get age know they need food

That would cut down on much of the ripping and running but would render much of the area useless and would crowd people together worse than they tend to be now. Lots of trails go a long way back.
I'm all for the foot traffic only areas because I don't have an atv . They allow you to hike back without fear of an atv riding up and some one coming in on you. Not that many people are willing to walk a mile to deer hunt.

Either poaching or predation must be bad up there. The herd doesn't seem to be growing. Habitat looks great from what I have seen.
 
It gets hunted by locals a lot when hunts aren't going on. I've heard tons of stories of evading capture and everything else in there. Also pretty well known that you can get some really nice bucks spotlighting bordering properties.

I like the idea of limiting the areas for the lazy people. When it come to Catoosa I often hear people say you have to hike a mile or 2 back in there to get the good spots but with the current road/trail structure I can honestly on think of 1 or 2 places u can actually go a mile and not be closer to a different road.
 
Hunted till noon saw 2 does
Had 3 places marked on the map to scout for next year.
Wasn't many people up there at all. Unfortunately someone was at 2 out of 3 places so I didn't get to look at them. I'll go back in a few weeks and check them out

Ahhhhh good ole Catoosa memories....one year I was hunting from the ground against a big tree when I see a deer way off crossing a small rise. I lost sight of it only to hear a shot ring out, then another and another..I watched the deer zig zagging through the woods like a Soldier running through no mans land. I was actually thinking to myself "go deer go, you can make it!" I swear there were a dozen shots or more as it ran away out of sight. After realizing where I was and how many shots were fired at a deer on full run I got out....quickly.
 
My buddy and I sat daylight to dark yesterday in a good area. I saw one unidentified about 8, and he saw one doe before dark. It was a long day in the stand but enjoyed it. I heard probably 8 - 10 shots yesterday morning but not sure if all of them were on Catoosa.
