Catoosa?

Were headed to catoosa for the muzzleloader quota hunt in a few weeks and were not sure if were are going make it down for a scouting trip before or not. Thought I would post a couple questions and see if anyone can give some input?

1. Do the campgrounds at the WMA usually fill up? Is there designated campsites or is it more of an open field campground like at Chuck Swan?

2. Is there any benefit to taking an ATV? Ive heard that they are only permitted on the roads that are open to regular vehicles or is there designated trails for them.

Thanks in advance for any info that you can provide. We were awarded the Bi Color area.

I am not an expert - but I have hunted and camped there numerous times - here is my 2 cents worth:
1. Catoosa has designated camping areas. It is first come first serve - nothing reserved. They can get pretty full - but don't think you will have to worry about finding a place to camp. NOW...I know you said you were drawn for BiColor - BUT, it doesn't matter. You can go to either side - Genesis or Bi-color. I don't even know why they still draw for separate sides - I think it's just a vestige of years gone by. I have drawn both and hunted wherever I found the best sign. There are camping areas on both sides.

2. ATV's can come in handy in some places. But, you will not find a great deal of places where they are more advantageous than a 4wd truck. For example - there is a logging road on Genesis side that you are permitted to drive - it would be pretty rough driving a truck on it - though folks do. But, from my experience - there are few of those kind of roads that you are permitted to drive on. Most of the time, a road to small to drive a truck on is foot traffic only road. SOMEONE ELSE with more knowledge of the area can correct me if I am wrong on that.

You should have plenty of area to camp on. (Might be close to someone). If you have a good 4 wheel drive, an atv is not needed.
