I don't even know were Catoosa is but if I managed that area, I would try whatever they did in the 50's & 60's!

its like bsk says,you can do whatever you wantand your not going to see big bucks behind every tree,and yes it works
 
I think they should decrease the no of hunters on the quota hunts, shorten the no quota bow, but have a second non quota bow hunt.

how about planting something in all those fields and not using hogs as a excuse not to
 
I use to hunt there several years ago with about 6 or 7 other guys. We would hunt the Archery hunt for 6 or 7 days, and hunt the open muzzle loader they use to have, and the Gun hunts when we got a tag. Did this for maybe 10 years in a row. Then also hunted the Draw hunts, a few times, and the Archery hunt a few years after the antler restrictions were put in place. Between all of us hunting them years, I think we saw between all of us, 2 deer that would meet the restriction of the bucks.
 
There are lots of good bucks on Catoosa. There are just too many people on the hunts. If you go from very little traffic and people in the woods to 1500 people scouting the day before the hunt, what do you think the deer would do? They go nocturnal almost instantly

I hunted a spot the following Tuesday after the bow opener... a place there was lots of sign and I was getting some good pics. I also hunted Opening wkd. I didnt see a deer from the stand. That tuesday was right around a new moon. I saw 17 DEER on the drive out. Forced nocturnal!
 
Yea on the draw hunts there is close to 3000 hunters on the wma and they
May kill 75 to 100 bucks .. The odds are not to good. They should just go back to the nOn quota hunts instead of this I bet the numbers would stay close to what they are nOw
 
Not sure if the numbers are exact, going from memory. About 300 buck killed per year. About 80,000 acres. Thats about 1 buck killed per 266 acres. Now spread those 300 bucks over how many hunts, maybe 15 or so. So figuring 20-30 bucks killed per hunt that would equate to about 1 buck per every 3000 acres per hunt. Like I said I know my numbers are not exact but they have got to be in the ballpark. I also believe if my math is correct 3000 acres is about 4 to 4-1/2 square miles.

Not at all being argumentive, but what is your reasoning for making the bow hunts quota. Would you also change the buck size rule. Also you are recommending a 500 hunter quota, how many are you estimating are hunting now for the non quota hunt. Like I said I am not trying to be argumentive, just trying to get the reasoning from someone who is a lot more knowlegable about Catoosa than I am. I have bow hunted there for the past 4 years and enjoy it a lot, not so much for the hunting but more for the hunt camp experience.

I thought the same thing when I saw it.
 
If your were required to were orange during the archery non quota, it would look like neyland stadium on saturday. That is the reason I quit hunting there. Just to many people, walking in on you, hanging right next to you. No respect for other hunters.

You do your homework, scout for several days, find a good spot and as soon as the gates open, there's other hunters walking all over you. Good Luck to all who hunts there.

As far as the bucks, I have saw several shooters but you can't hit'em when they are running with there tongues out. lol
 
A friend of mine hunted one season a few years ago in Catoosa and said it was very crowded. He said he got in his stand the first morning and everywhere he looked after it got daylight he saw blaze orange everywhere.
