I know catman has been the source of some discussion lately, and opinions vary. I certainly disagreed with him some, but I always had a lot of respect for him. He's not much younger than me, but he came to this forum—by his own admission—knowing almost nothing about hunting. He was never embarrassed to ask questions that many (myself included) would have been reluctant to ask.
At any rate, he was absolutely dedicated to learning, and he became a pretty accomplished deer/turkey hunter, mostly on public land, and a fine woodsman. With several oak/acorn ID questions posted lately, I remembered that catman created a very useful Oak ID Guide on his website. I have it bookmarked on my phone, and that is usually the first place I go when trying to identify a specific oak in TN. I thought some of you might find it useful as well:
