Its beginning to warm up a little bit and I was wanting to go fishing a few times.. can I have some tips on what catfish might be going after at this time of year, or is it the same year round (cut bait, bream, livers, etc?) Also if I set out any jugs would I catch anything like the summer time?? Or is jugging just for the summer.

I set some jugs about this time last year and yes they were biting. This is about the time of year I usually start catching em. Need to buy my license ASAP and get on the water.

Good, guess I will be hitting the water soon, I got a question that you may or may not know the answer too. Me and my buddy found a honey hole last year on tims. The first day we found it we caught 10-15 keepers on it so we decided to go back a few days later. Its a little cove and when we went back there were bubbles rising too the top everywhere. Im talking about all over the place, from bank to bank in the end of the cove.. I was wondering if this had to do with catfish spawn or something.. when this was happening we were catching little 6 inch catfish every single cast like they were just born or something, it was very strange and puzzled me. It was in the dead heat of summer and I was just curious to what it was.

That's interesting, I just thought it was strange since we were catching such little catfish so often, I thought it had something to do with them hatching. Thanks for clearing it up.

I've caught roughly 10 so far in 3 times of fishing in the past week but they all have been 8" and smaller.
I've been using raw shrimp only so far.
I'm gonna try liver tomorrow.
Normally liver is really good but I haven't tried to yet this year.

yes it sounds like methane bubbles but I dont know why there would not be rotting leaves one day and then there would be bubbles everywhere just a few days later. But who knows. Doubt it has anything to do with the catfish. A fresh hatched catfish would be a lot smaller than 6 inches.

I know some buddies that have been going to points with night crawlers any time of the day at center hill and catching a bunch of cats if that helps

Catfishing will be picking up very soon. Around the first of April is when I first start having alot more luck.

Cut fish and liver is my favorite bait.

As for the bubbles: was there a bad smell in the area, if so, it was the organic matter breaking down for sure. But like catman said, its strange to do it one day and not the other, and yes fresh hatched fish (fry) are far smaller than 6 inches.
