Catfish question

I'm ready for a weekend at the lake but the wind will not cooperate with me to do any Crappie fishing, so I was wondering do you think I would have any luck with catfish on yo yo's or even a trotline?

what water depth should I try?

My experience is that it's pretty cold for yo-yo's, but maybe others know differently.

Trotlines are always "in season" :)

I use to fish the backwater in the river bottoms years ago in the winter time and always had good luck, I have never tried Reelfoot lake in the winter time for catfish, but it seems like the should be bitting something, I'm like you I never see people yo yo in the winter time not sure why though?

I have always been able to catch them year round on the same rig..
bottom fishing with cut fish for bait..

Yo-yos no good when they freeze up and springs don't work, basically just a limb line then

would you fish out in deep water or around the banks

This time of year you will probably be best to look for moving water as colder temps have dropped DO (dams are usually good). Personally I like jugging or in our case noodling, which is just tying a catfish rig to a 1/4 of a pool noddle.

I have noodles but they are hard to keep up with in the wind, very little moving water at Reelfoot lake.
