Catchdawg, you ever try that euro leader nymph stuff in the creeks? It seems like it would work but I don't know how you could sneak up close enough?

I've worn them out with it before it became mainstream, but only in mountain streams. The clinch fish would never tolerate you being that close I don't think
Most of my buddies I fish with euro nymph with all the "stuff" that goes with it, specialty rods, leaders, etc. I've been "high sticking" for forty years catching fish. Does the euro stuff work? Absolutely. Do they out fish me using conventional gear? Absolutely not. And I'm speaking of the small streams, not much experience with it below dams. I just don't buy into the trendy stuff, not saying there's anything wrong with it but I'm old school and stick with what I know and what's worked for me for a long time.
In the mtns I'm hunting/hiding as much as fishing but I kinda want to try it. Like setterman said I don't think any holdover would let you get within rod length of them on the Caney where I go. In the creeks I guess you'd have to just commit to it for that day and take a 9' rod?

Pretty much, and I prefer a 9' at all times in the streams. Much better linencontrol
Most euro rods are between 10' and 11' and you still kinda gotta get on top of them. I would rather stand back and make a cast as far away as possible whether that be an overhand, roll or bow. I'm not above drifting a nymph under the smallest indicator I can get away with. It's worked for years and still does. In my opinion, presentation and drift outweighs anything else, including fly selection (on wild trout).
