Any advice on how to remove a stuck case from a die? Using One Shot case lube going thru and sizing and de-priming some 06 cases when one was tighter than the others. I thought (the first mistake) that I could run it on thru, but it lodged, and I sheared the case shoulder off as I went to extract. I unscrewed the pipe nut that locks the inner neck sizing rod, and tapped on it some to no avail. I can take it to the shop Mon and get it out I suppose, but just thought I'd ask to see if anyone had dealt with this before.
 
yea buddy,,go ahead and get the stuck case removal set,,you drill the case and tap the hole and screw a bolt in the hole and push it out with the bolt,,
 
Aha, wonder if d&t the case and use the threaded hole to screw in a dent puller type device to pop it out with? Or is this what you were describing?

I went years without sticking a case and then I have stuck about 4 in last 3 years. I send them to RCBS and they unstick for free.

I did it about 27 years ago and sent it back to RCBS and they fixed for free. I've been lucky because I've not done it since.
 
Very true. I will be looking into getting one for myself.

What I found was the Hornady Case lube in the aerosol can does not work correctly, at least the way I reload. You had to keep brass lube step pretty close to FL size step. Switch to the Lyman aerosol and there was no problem.

I used a pad and white paste for years, rolled a ton of brass and never stuck a single case.
 
Yep ETH the Imperial wax is supposed to be the secret to NO STUCK CASES. I will probably go to it when I restock. The aerosol stuff is kinda weak.

I wonder what folks use for 223 cases, when they have between 500 and 2500 of them to FL size in a smallbase die?
 
Thanks guys for all the info. I got the case out this morning, using a puller I had made. I put it in the freezer for about 20 min, then popped it a couple of times and it came out. ;) I'll be looking into the Imperial Sizing Wax now.
 
When folks come in the store looking for stuck case remover, I started asking what lube they use, after 5 years now, it is about 95% stuck cases are from the Hornady spray lube. I always sell them a tub of Hornady Unique.
 
It's applied by hand. Biggest problem with One Shot is people try to spray 50 cases in a loading block at one time and virtually none of the cases get coated good. If you sprayed each individual case one by one on both sides it would be fine.
 
10-4 I actually did spray this one case by hand that got stuck tho. I only had 4 cases from shooting that rifle earlier, and wanted to deprime and size them and put them with a batch I had already worked. Rem case btw.
 
I recall my one and only stuck case. I was not much older than 20 and while knowledgeable about guns still inexperienced. Soooo, for some reason, long forgotten, I decided to run a loaded 22-250 through the sizing die. Of course I took the decapping pin out 1st. Well, it was hard to force in and once I did get the case all the way in the die, it didn't want to come out as expected. A strong shove on the press handle and the case rim sheared off just as you'd expect - I had my 1st stuck case - which to make matters a lot worse was a fully loaded round with powder and primer. (DON'T TRY TO DUPLICATE MY STUPIDITY FOLKS!!) :)

I knew I'd "pooped in my pants" at this point. So after looking at the possible ways to get the case/round out, I knew for sure that poking around the primer end was a "No-No" because if I did accidentally fire the primer, the die would act as a rifle chamber and both the bullet and case head would become lethal projectiles. Well, I decided to get a rod and hammer the bullet down inside the case. (I know it's not smart but that's what I did.) :) Once I got the bullet down inside the case, I turned the die upside down and shook the powder out. Now, I had removed the danger at least. The worse thing that could happen was to ignite the primer and have it pop out and hit me in the eye at this point. I was wearing goggles so that wasn't a problem. I decided to use a hacksaw to cut the case head off. not too long after I started cutting, the heat from sawing ignited the primer and with no pressure comming from inside the case to expand the primer against it's pocket, it popped out and hit the ceiling of the shop. Luckily I had not even come close to cutting the case head off. At this point I went to the standard method. Drilled the primer pocket out and threaded it. I got a long bolt with that thread size put in the case with a big washer or two under the head and put the bolt through the hole in the handle of a big pipe wrench to get some leverage. Using that pipe wrench, with a wood block as a fulcrum, the case came out with very little effort. You can bet your life, I have never tried to run a loaded cartridge into a sizer die again and have never stuck a case at all.
